Georgia Class of 2024 Rankings: Official Release

After a busy summer full of events, the Class of 2024 Player Rankings is long overdue for an update as these players have just started their final year of their high school careers. There were a ton of new names who entered into the fold, as well as a number of others who continue to elevate their game, warranting plenty of movement and expansion (now 300 players) to the list. Most of the same names are still inside the Top-10 from the last update, but there's some shakeup within.

THE TOP-10 IN THE CLASS OF 2024

Michael Mullinax OF / RHP / North Cobb Christian, GA / 2024At first glance, Mullinax does not jump out with more of a wiry, 6-foot frame with more narrow shoulders along with deep, unorthodox hands placement from both sides of the plate. However, his impact to the game extends well beyond the misguided assumptions of any initial glance. The switch-hitting outfielder grinded out some of the best at-bats of any player at the event, and there is a tunneled intensity to the way he goes about his business that is both admirable and invigorating. Toe-tapping from both sides as the hands stretched much deeper down and back, the bat speed and barrel turn matched the intent of each swing as he was on time often with more advanced pitch recognition. While unorthodox, the swing is natural and inherent, and the barrel accuracy is acute with present gap-to-gap intent. With a profile that is likely to need perpetual in-game success in the minds of scouts, Mullinax started his march to next year’s draft in excellent form.

Arnold Abernathy Jr SS / OF / North Cobb, GA / 2024Ever since Future Games in 2022 Abernathy has been slowly climbing in the ranks. The atheltic SS is beginning to come into his power at the plate, and is completely changing his game. Speed never slumps is a great phrase for Abernathy. He can take over the game on the bases, and now has added the power tool to his arsenal, and has seemingly comleted his game. David Seifert had this to say about Arnold at East Coast Pro, "Abernathy, whose athletic body type and pull approach at the plate remind me of former Chicago Cubs outfielder and fellow Georgian Corey Patterson, also added a single to center field his second at-bat."

Rustan Rigdon SS / RHP / Metter, GA / 2024Rigdon has been a favorite since he came onto the scene in 2021. The effortless approach to his game is fun to watch, and is one of the biggest "gamers" in the class. The Vanderbilt commit made his first appearance on the big stage at Future Games in 2021 as the youngest player in the event. The switch hitting shortstop put on a show at the plate, and sky rocketed his high school career. Rigdon is another one that has matured physically, and has helped his game take another step forward. From ECP Quick Hits by David Seifert, "INF Rustan Rigdon (Metter HS, GA) blasted a two-out triple to right field with an exit velocity of 97 mph."

Levi Clark C / RHP / Walton, GA / 2024If there were an MVP of the summer prior to 4th of July, Clark would be heading home with the hardware. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher has been simply sensational to start the summer, and the whispers from the scouting community have quickly elevated to a buzz. Seemingly on the barrel with each swing, Clark showcased a thunderous barrel that drove the ball to both gaps against a multitude of premium arms. Setting up in a sturdy base, the hands stretch back before working the barrel flat through the zone with controlled aggression that saw him stay behind the ball while generating considerable strength from the lower-half. Behind the dish, he was consistently on the bag with a willingness to do the little things in helping his pitcher. There is obviously large power potential with some present results, but it is his willingness to drive the ball to the opposite field that might be most intriguing. Built with some physical similarity to Pete Alonso, the swing exhibits some of the same characteristics, and given his age as one of the youngest players at the event, Clark might only be getting started with his ascent in the class.

Tate Strickland RHP / OF / Harrison, GA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 1
Strickland has been a household name in the state of Georgia since his commitment to Tennessee back in the summer of 2021. The righty always had some of the best actions in the class, but has seemingly transformed his game since I last saw him in February. The fastball was in the low 90's this summer at NPI, and was recently at ECP where our college cross-checker David Seifert had this to say, "In the fourth, another Tennessee commit RHP Tate Strickland (Harrison HS, GA) entered on the bump. He touched a 97 mph with his high-spin heater (2,600-2,800 rpm), then dialed it up to 98 before going to his slider numerous times in a row. It flashed plus with late action and spun tightly (2,500 rpm) at 84-87 mph. The 6-foot-3 right-hander also killed spin on his work-in-progress changeup (1,550 rpm)."

Nate Taylor RHP / RHP / Buford, GA / 2024"More high-level arms took the mound for both clubs as RHP Nate Taylor (Buford HS, GA; uncommitted) was next for the Padres. With a high effort delivery and good arm speed the uncommitted talent found the zone with 90-94 mph fastballs. He spun a near average breaking ball at 82-83 mph at 2500-2750 rpm, but his best pitch was an average to better at times 86-87 changeup. He killed spin down into the 1400s with most in the 1600-1700 range for some sink."

Bryce Clavon SS / OF / Kell, GA / 2024Clavon has been another name that has put a stamp in the top 10 for the length of his high school career. The two-way athlete has always let his athleticism shine in his game. The story for most high level high school prospects is developing and adding strength to become a high level player at the next level, and Clavon has been the definition of hard work. He could play football at the division 1 level with the physicality he has added over the last year. Our highest ranked uncommitted player is surely going to make a splash when he announces where he will be play at the next level.

Terrence Kiel II OF / SS / Pace Academy, GA / 2024Kiel made his presence known in this class last summer at area code games. The present strength in the box is exciting to watch, and he continued to show well all summer with USA Prime. Another 2-way athlete that is solidified himself in the top 10 with his fast twich bat to ball skills and athletic presence.

Jackson Barberi RHP / 3B / Brookwood, GA / 2024A healthy Barberi was exciting to see this summer at NPI. He has one of the highest ceilings in the class, and has just scratched the surface after a big summer. The velo is going to continue to rise, and with the 6'4 frame a division 1 pitchings coach is going to transform Barberi into a power arm with starter potential. The fastball played in the low 90's with around 2500 spin that is some of the best in the state. The slider is sharp with swing and miss potential. The upside from Barberi is going to fun to watch once he makes his commitment.

Owen Hancock RHP / SS / Worth County, GA / 2024"Ole Miss recruit RHP Owen Hancock (Worth County HS, GA) oozes projection and more future velocity with a slender frame at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, equipped with a quick arm out front. He’s an aggressive thrower with a 90-92 mph fastball and a present average 82-84 changeup that he kept down in the zone and drew numerous whiffs. It spun in the 1,600-1,700 rpm range, and it had good bottom to its finish."
