Uncommitted Spotlight: RHP Rem Maxwell

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Starting today, we will be spotlighting several uncommitted prospects to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level.

Today, we spotlight one of the top uncommitted arms in the 2021 class, RHP Rem Maxwell (Jefferson). We got our first look at Maxwell on the mound last June for Team Georgia during the National Program Invitational at LakePoint Sports. National Crosschecker Shooter Hunt had the honor of seeing the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Maxwell do his thing. On that day, Maxwell worked his fastball up to 90 mph and showed good feel for an 11/5 breaking ball. Given the physicality in his frame, there is little doubt that there will be another velocity jump in due time. We were able to catch another glimpse of Maxwell this spring when Jefferson took on No. 1-ranked Parkview at the Georgia Peach Invitational. The big man battled against the state's top team, allowing three runs over six innings, while striking out six.

Scouting Report

6/22/19 -  6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed pitcher, thick lower half, strength throughout, frame standouts among the rest, could definitely see more gains being made, leading to an increase in velocity. Worked exclusively out of the stretch, full arm swing on the back side, gets out front with advanced arm speed to a high 3/4 slot. There is some effort in delivery as he pulls his head through release. Drop and drive, uses strong lower half very well to get down the mound on-line. Fastball sat 87-90, some lift to it. Curveball, 72-75, 11/5 shape, good feel for pitch, has some bite.
