Uncommitted Spotlight: OF Preston Gunnell
April 2, 2020
Today our spotlight centers around OF Preston Gunnell (Woodstock, 2021). We got our first look at Gunnell last spring during the GHSA Playoffs when Woodstock almost pulled off the upset against eventual 7A state finalist Hillgrove, taking them to a decisive third game. At the time, only a sophomore, Gunnell rose to the occasion and played a big part in the Woodstock offense. Fast forward a few months and Gunnell is hitting out of the three hole and manning the hot corner for the Georgia Bombers on their way to capturing the 16U NPI Championship. This spring, the right-handed hitter was a top of the order bat and made the move from third base to the outfield. This has only added a layer of versatility to the athletically built 6-foot-1, 175-pounder. Through all of this, one thing has remained the same, Gunnell's ability to hit. We have seen time and time again that he hammers baseballs to the pull-side with force. He is a smart hitter who plays into his natural strengths and tendencies, looking for fastballs early in the count that he can take to left field. A school at the next level would be smart to make a move on this prospect, who has shown he is willing to do what it takes to win at all costs.
