Uncommitted Spotlight: LHP Jess Ackerman
April 2, 2020
We have had a few good looks at southpaw Jess Ackerman (North Forsyth, 2021) from last summer to this spring. Ackerman was an infulential member of the Georiga Bombers pitching staff last June, helping them to a 16U NPI title. At the time, Ackerman sat in the low-80s with his fastball. Fast forward to this spring at the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament, and the 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-hander has added his fastball, sitting 83-85, and touching 87 multiple times. With such a loose, easy arm action, and a strong build, there is certainly more velocity to come as he continues to mature. Given his lower slot, his fastball plays with late run and he is able to locate it to all areas of the zone with. Ackerman also offers up a sweeping breaking ball that contrasts and plays nicely with this running fastball.
