Team Georgia Game 2 Recap

Team Georgia was back in action Friday evening for their second game of the 2019 PBR Future Games against Team Alabama. Strong pitching performances from all three of Team Georgia’s arms carried the squad to their first victory at the Future Games, 3-0 over Team Alabama.

The top performer of the game and one of the breakout prospects of Future Games was 2021 RHP Caleb Logerwell (Home School). In Logerwell’s three innning stint he allowed zero runs while striking out five. The more Logerwell pitched, the more confidence he gathered on the mound, and by the end of his three-inning outing, he had put an emphatic stamp on his performance by striking out the side. And he did so with a devastating slider, one that he spun between 2700-3027 rpm. His slider is a true knee-buckling putaway pitch, thrown aggressively between 75-79 mph with sharp, late two-plane bite and landed it consistently for strikes. Logerwell has a lean, athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame and a loose, slinger arm action coming out of a 3/4 slot. He has a fast hand out front and his natural athleticism and competitiveness come to the fore on the mound. He works fast and challenges hitters. His fastball ranged between 86-88 mph and plays mostly true. Currently ranked No. 170 nationally in the 2021 class.


2021 LHP Andrew Herrmann (Campbell) got the start, setting the tone early for Team Georgia. At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, Herrmann has projectable frame with room for growth and more firmness. Utilizing a quick drop and drive delivery, Herrmann’s arm works long on the back-side but with enough arm speed to sync up and get to release on time from a high ¾ slot. In two scoreless innings his fastball sat 83-85, touching 86 while mixing in a sweeping breaking ball at 70.
Bridging the gap between Herrmann and Logerwell was 2021 RHP Pax Briley III (North Gwinnett). A long and lean 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with broad shoulders, Briley is just scratching the surface of his physical potential. The frame will no doubt carry more strength and mass as he continues to mature and develop. Briley works from a ¾ slot with a clean arm action and little-to-no effort. In his two scoreless innings his fastball sat 83-84. Showed good feel for a changeup that had late fade at 74.
The offense was primarily provided by 2022 OF/1B Jonathan Jaime (Brookwood) who had the first multi-hit game of the weekend for Team Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 184-pound left-handed hitter has a broad frame with strength throughout and more to come. At the plate he takes a balanced setup, a short leg lift stride, loads his hands back and cocks wrist in an athletic fashion. There is some rigidness in lower half, but Jaime makes up for that with quick hands and a strong upper body, allowing him to drive the ball with ease. In his fast at-bat of the day he showed a mature approach with two-strikes, shortening up and looking to put the ball in play, good for a single to center. Jaime followed that up by showing off the bat speed and strength, lacing one into the left-center gap that got away from the center fielder and resulted in a triple.
