TOS Notebook: First Workout Day
June 23, 2015

It wouldn’t be the Tournament of Stars without stifling heat and the 2015 edition kicked off Tuesday with a workout session and the heat index breaking triple digits in Cary, NC. Scouts crammed into whatever shade was available to see six teams go through defensive drills and batting practice. Overall, it was a rather pedestrian day, but here are some players that stood out…
+ The Tournament of Stars serves as a tryout for the 18U National team—players born in 1997 or later are eligible—so the pool of players to choose from is largely rising seniors. However, some graduates and underclassmen are mixed in. OF/LHP Daniel Cabrera (John Curtis Christian HS, LA) is a 2017 and arguably had the best round of batting practice on the day. He uses a leg kick load and exhibits a quick bat with a smooth, easy swing. He hit lots of hard line drives from left center to his pull side. He has a tight, wiry frame at 6 feet, 180 pounds and showed an average arm in the field.
