Season Review: South Forsyth

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

Josh Green, RHP, South Forsyth, 2020
FB: 84-86, BB: 73

3/3/20 - Athletic 2020 with easy life in his arm. Came on in a brief relief appearance and worked 84-86. Showed off two breaking balls, both coming in at 73.

Gehrig Frei, SS, South Forsyth, 2021
Season Stats: .450 AVG, .532 OBP, 3 2B, 2 3B, 12 RBI, 13 R, 7 SB

Coach’s Notes: 6-foot-1, 180-pound shortstop,switch hitter. Plus hands and arm - great feet and super high baseball iq. One of the few kids who at the HS level projects to be a true SS at the college level. 2021 class - tremendous student in the IB program. Excellent grades.

10/4/19 - Uncommitted high-follow prospect. Impact player on both sides of the ball. Live-bodied 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder, shows enough arm strength and actions to stick on the left side of the diamond. Athletic actions across the board; plays hard and under control. Balanced swing with above-average bat speed, level path with a mature presence in the box. Defensively, has an athletic arm, stays low, gets it out front and plays through it well.

Coach’s Notes: Acted as the No. 3 in the rotation this year, will be the No. 2 next season.

Conor Finegan, RHP, South Forsyth, 2021
FB: 82-86, CB: 71-73
Season Stats: 2-2, 22.2 IP, 30 K, 7 BB, 3.08 ERA

Coach’s Notes: not super tall in stature, 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, but live arm for his size, pounds the zone with a solid feel for his change, spins a true 12/6 breaker and can locate both sides of the plate. Sits mid 80's and fills up the zone. Competitor feeds off of big situations. His older brother plays at Stevens Tech - is a great student.

3/3/20 - Showed feel for two pitches in his start. Fastball sat 82-84, touched with action. Curveball, 71-73, 11/5 shape with sharper action, used to put away right-handed hitters.

Coach’s Notes: Was on a tear offensively hitting, left-handed stick with juice, was rock solid at 1B

Alex Urias, LHP/OF, South Forsyth, 2023
FB: 80-83

Coach’s Notes: Worked his way into the lineup and saw his 1st start on the mound. Bats right but can fly. By the 12th game he was the starting CF and will be in the rotation as a soph next yr. He will be a college player - uber athletic.
