PBR Georgia Player of the Week: LHP Carter Holton & OF Marquis Mitchell
March 9, 2021
Week 3 of the 2021 season brought us some big time performances across the state. For the fourth time in the past seven weeks that we have handed out this award, LHP Carter Holton (Benedictine; Vanderbilt) is the Pitcher of the Week. At this point, we might as well rename the award after the southpaw. The Hitter of the Week goes to OF Marquis Mitchell (Mt. Zion, 2023).
How did Holton come away with his fourth Player of the Week? Well, all he did was throw his second career perfect game at Benedictine. Holton went 6.0 IP, allowing 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, while striking out at an incredible 16 batters. Not only was he dominant in his start against Camden County, but we also have to mention that he swung a hot bat as well. Holton hit 7-for-8, with 2 2B, HR, 3 BB.
Mitchell had a week to remember. Over the course of four games, he only recorded one out, while collecting nine total hits. Of those nine hits, two were doubles, two triples and one a grand slam. In total, Mitchell finished the week with 14 runs batted in. On top of all that, he walked six times and stole 15 bases, scoring 10+ times. The 2023 is a name to keep an eye on the rest of the spring and heading into summer.
