Future/Junior Future Games Trials Scout Blog: Catchers

It is time to begin our in-depth coverage for each player that attended the Future/Junior Future Games Trials at Top Gun Baseball Field in Birmingham, Alabama. Today, we will shift our focus to the catchers. This crop of backstops featured some solid bats at the plate and some good defenders.
Each catcher got numerous throws to 2nd base to show off their arm strength and footwork and a couple dirt balls to block during the workout portion of the event. Also included will be how they handled the pitchers during bullpens on the field.
'22 C Ryan Revera (Bob Jones) led all catchers with pop times that ranged from 1.99-2.07. '22 C Charlie Cochran (Florence) posted the 2nd-best pops at 2.06-2.32 and '22 C Anthony Bermea (Bob Jones) rounded out the Top 3 with pop times of 2.16-2.24. '22 C Eli Langlands (Smiths Station) led all catchers with a 76 mph C velo.
Let's check out all of the catchers below.
Ryan Revera: C/OF, (2022) Bob Jones, AL. 5-foot-9, 160-pound sturdy frame. Clocked a 60 time of 7.6 at the event. Starts in an open stance with a compact load, then uses a small leg kick before his swing. Had upward swing plane, efficient bat speed and good extension on his finish. In the round he found multiple barrels. Revera recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. He produced a position velocity of 73 mph during throw downs. With a pop time of 1.99-2.07, showed off his quick feet and his ability to control the run game from behind the plate. Used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag.
Charlie Cochran: C/1B, (2022) Florence, AL. 6-foot-2, 200-pound physical frame. In the box, the right-handed hitters best exit velocity was 85 mph. Started in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a leg kick to initiate his swing. Bat speed is quick, uses uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, he produced a pop time of 2.06-2.32, his best recorded throw to second was clocked at 68 mph. Had consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.66.
Anthony Bermea: C/OF, (2022) Bob Jones, AL. 6-foot, 170-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 82 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a short stride before his swing. Simple swing plane. Through the round he found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.16-2.24, he made throws to second at velocities up to 75 mph. Had consistent accuracy.
Eli Langlands: C/3B, (2022) Smiths Station, AL. 5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic frame. In the box, Langlands recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph. Begins in an athletic stance with a high load, then uses a controlled stride before his swing. Ended his swing with good extension on his finish. Found some barrels during his rounds. Pull side approach. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.19-2.33, throw downs to second topped out at 76 mph. Had a short arm action with an-over-the-top slot. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 8.54.
Nathan Mayfield: C/3B, (2023) Bob Jones, AL. 6-foot, 165-pound solid frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. Sets up in an athletic stance and had a controlled stride. Has above average bat speed. Barreled up lots of balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.19-2.35, throw downs to second topped out at 72 mph. Had a quick arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a 60 time of 7.66 at the event.
Brent Honaker: C/1B, (2022) Oxford, AL. 6-foot-1, 200-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Honaker displayed an exit velocity of 92 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Had a compact load then used a controlled stride. Bat speed was quick, and displayed uphill swing plane. Had loud contact and found lots of barrels. Pull side approach. Behind the plate, recorded a pop time of 2.19-2.39, his best recorded velocity during throw downs was clocked at 71 mph. Showed decent accuracy. Clocked a time of 8.24 in the 60-yard dash.
Alexander Morgan: C/3B, (2024) Sequoyah, GA. 5-foot-10, 150-pound solid frame. Clocked a 60 time of 8.92 at the event. Setup was comprised of balanced stance and a controlled load. Has upward swing plane and has high finish. Barreled up some balls during the round. Gap to gap approach. the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 77 mph. His best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 67 mph. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.23-2.48. Had some accuracy to the bag and a high ¾ slot.
Joel Cordero: 2B/C, (2024) Russell county, AL. 5-foot-4, 125-pound proportional frame. At the plate, Cordero had an exit velocity of 76 mph. Started in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is average. He Barreled up some balls during the round. Up the middle approach. While catching, he produced a pop time of 2.32-2.38, average in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 66 mph. Best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 64 mph. Had a short arm action and decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 8.25.
Keaton Watson: C/RHP, (2025) Madison Academy, AL. 5-foot-9, 165-pound mature frame. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.87. Setup includes balanced stance and a controlled load. Simple swing plane. Found some barrels through his rounds. Pull side approach. the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 77 mph. In the infield, his best throw was recorded at 70 mph. Best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 62 mph. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.35-2.42. Showed a quick arm action with a high ¾ slot.
Jackson Bryant: C/1B, (2023) Springville, AL. 6-foot, 202-pound physical frame. At the plate, the switch hitter clocked an exit velocity of 79 mph. Sets up a balanced stance. Has quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Created some loud contact and found lots of barrels. Pull side approach. While catching, consistently had pop times of 2.48-2.56, his best recorded throw to second was clocked at 65 mph. Showed a quick arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. Recorded a 60 time of 9.76 at the event.
Nick Peters: C/OF, (2025) Helena, AL. 5-foot-2, 135-pound projectable frame. During batting practice, Peters had an exit velocity of 63 mph. Sets up in a balanced stance and used a short stride. Has average bat speed. Base hit approach. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.57-2.71, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 61 mph. Showed decent accuracy. Recorded a 60 time of 9.73 at the event.
