Future Games Spotlight - 1B/OF Owen Anchors

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

The 2022 PBR Future Games are less than two weeks away, and will be here in no time. With that being said, we would like to introduce you to this year's Team Georgia. We will roll out individual player spotlights with comments, video, stats, and more over the next few days.

1B/OF Owen Anchors (Dunwoody; 643) is the type of player you dream about. A projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, advanced athleticism, and a left-handed power bat are just three of the reasons why Anchors is so highly regarded in the state. He turned heads at last month's Underclass Games with a loud round BP followed up by an even louder home run during gameplay. He does a great job of staying short to the ball, allowing for his large frame to work through the zone to generate big power. While Anchors is athletic enough to be ranging in the outfield, his athleticism will save more than a few runs at first base.

At 6 foot 3, 180 pounds with light tower power, this is what they’re supposed to look like. It’s going to be absolutely eye opening when he adds another 10 lbs to his lengthy medium frame. The leverage king sets up tall with elbows bent & bat resting on his shoulder, the most relaxed upper body we’ve seen. Anchors pre sets his weight with the knee angled inside his back foot so the first move with the first move is forward. As his hips direct the stride he triggers into launch position at the same pace, creating optimal separation. What happens after is a sweet swing with loud bat speed. Whether he squares it up or not, it always comes off the bat hot. This is a player who projects plus raw power and is regularly showing special abilities as a hitter. Patient in his approach but looking to do damage with any pitch in the zone. He projects as two different players - the 5 tool CF that stays lean, or the 4 tool corner OF with some of the best raw power in the country. Regardless of which type he ends up, fans will stop everything they’re doing to come watch Owen Anchors hit. When he goes to the outfield, they'll see an avg or better defender with a strong arm.

Uncommitted. 6 foot 3, 170 pounds w/ long levers. Tall free setup w/ active hand movement. Approach & bat speed years ahead of his time. Flashes 5 tool potential right now. True CF, burner w/ long graceful strides. Should be one of the most exciting 2024 in the country.
