First Look: 3B/1B Coby Wilkerson
January 24, 2020
Wilkerson is physically impressive at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds with broad shoulders and strength throughout his large frame, projecting to add a considerable amount of muscle to his body as he continues to physically mature. Impressively, given how large he actually is, he carries himself extremely well and could potentially be a 7.00 runner in the 60 yard dash when it is all said and done.
Where Wilkerson really stands out is at the plate. He has fluid pre-pitch rhythm in an open setup and smoothly loads his hands back. From there, there is little wasted action. His hands are short to the zone. His strong hands and wrists get quickly to the ball as the barrel travels in an uphill path through contact. He showed the ability to elevate and back spin, with force, any pitch that came belt high or above. If any pitcher is going to challenge him up in the zone, the expected result will be a ball that is going to travel a long way into the gaps and most likely take some time to land. Even on lower pitches, Wilkerson is able to use his natural strength to scoop the ball and generate hard contact. Came away with a 91 exit velocity, but even that may not be indicative of strength he possesses.

Scouting Report
1/11/20 - Uncommitted 2021 3B Coby Wilkerson will be a real long ball threat this spring at Walnut Grove High School. His swing works with length through the zone as he looks to elevate the ball and drive it with force, 91 exit velocity. A projectable 6-foot-2, 183-pounds there is a ton of room for him to add additional strength and power.
