Deep South Invitational Positional Breakdown: Outfielders
October 4, 2019
Six outfielders from Georgia were at Auburn University for the Deep South Invite on Sunday, September 29. The group showed plus athleticism and several were very impressive offensively while one showed upper 80's velocity from the outfield. Here are the individual scouting analysis for each outfielder.
Murchael Turner OF / 2B / Woodward Academy, GA / 2023Turner continues to show strong promise on the baseball field. The young 2023 prospect has a good frame at 5-10, 165-pounds. He moves well and gets stronger every time we see him. At the plate Turner displays excellent hand eye, along with a sound approach and projects very well with added strength as he is already showing strong exit velocity at 83 mph. He projects to have good ingredients as an outfielder both in terms of speed, bat and overall actions. |
Dallas Deas OF / 2B / North Cobb Christian, GA / 2021Deas is interesting looking athletic in the outfield and at the plate. He is on the smaller side at 5-foot-6, 165-pounds, but his bat, speed and arm strength are all projectable. He is a switch hitter with a very sound approach both ways, showing good bat control from the left and flashing the ability to get the bat-head out front from the right side. Overall his actions in the box from both sides look pretty polished considering the is a 2021 prospect. North Cobb Christian looks as though they will have plenty of talent this Spring and Deas is no doubt a part of that group. |
Will Fincher OF / Kennesaw Mountain, GA / 2022One of the better overall athletes in the 2022 class, Fincher did not disappoint. The first thing you notice about Fincher is his frame, at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds he is only going to get stronger. He has not yet gotten into any kind of man strength. He is light on his feet and can really run, using graceful long strides with an excellent forward lean (event best 4.0 to 1B). Offensively Fincher stands tall and straight away in the batters box and shows hard contact (83 mph exit velocity) when he stays back and gets the bat-head out. Defensively it is hard to say where he will fit best in the outfield, because he projects with arm strength (82 mph) as he lengthens out his stroke, he has more than enough speed for center, and the strength and size for a corner will be in the mix down the line. Fincher is one of the fastest kids in the state and is only going to get better over the coming years. Fincher will be one to keep a close eye on over the next few years. |
Jack Rickheim OF / SS / Fellowship Christian, GA / 2023At 5-foot-8, 140-pounds Rickheim has strong actions between the lines. In the batters box Rickheim is balanced and compact and has good projection as an offensive player going forward. He consistently centered the baseball to the pull side and showed good balance in the live game setting. The young 2023 is also projectable as a outfielder with good actions and arm (84 mph). Rickheim also showed solid actions on the infield dirt during the Deep South and he is an arrow up kind of player in the 2023 class and will be one to watch over the coming years. |
Elijah Banks OF / Riverdale, GA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 50 / POS: 17
Banks has an excellent frame with more strength coming at 6-foot-2, 155-pounds. Offensively Banks is straight away and upright and uses a pick it up put it down approach effectively in the box. Banks has projectable pull side power now and has more coming in the future with added strength. defensively Banks shows good easy actions and projectable arm strength already reaching 84 mph. Will be a close follow for us over the coming years. |
Garrett Garner OF / RHP / Franklin County, GA / 2023Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 3
Garner is a good looking young outfield prospect with an excellent frame already at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Garner also pitches and his arm strength stood out defensively also (87 mph). He moves well in the outfield and projects as a corner guy with future power. Garner set up slightly open with a small upper body crouch. he shows good loft to the pull side and never really gets to a firm front side, because he leans back into contact. As he matures and gets stronger and gets to his front side better, look for Garner's power potential to jump. As a position player Garner shows good unteachable talent in size and projectability. Good looking outfield prospect who is already making some noise and is not done yet. |
