Westminster knocks off No 12 North Broward 3-1
March 2, 2019
The No 19th ranked prospect in Florida 2019 class Anthony Tomczak took the mound for North Broward prep on Friday night and did not disappoint The 6-foot- 3, 200 pound senior has a strong athletic frame and a dominant presence on the mound. Tomczak would go five innings for the Eagles, and would walk three, strike out eight and not allow a hit to a talented, yong Westminster group. Tomczack worked mostly 88-90 touching 93 mph on occasion. He flashed an above average slider and curveball as well as what appeared to be a splitter.

The 2020 Miami commit Jamar Fairweather would take the mound for Westminster and would match Tomzcak step for step for three innings. If Fairweather threw an offspeed pitch, I did not see it, yet he dominated a talented North Broward lineup for three innings. He would not give up a hit either, while striking out five. He would work around four walks and two hit batsmen, attacking with a fastball they just could not seem to hit.

Fairweather would be replaced by an intriguing young talent and son of Joel Pinero, 2021 Joel Piniero Jr. Pinero would allow North Broward to break the tie in the fourth, allowing a run on a Kobe Benson single. Pinero would settle down though and cruise the remainder of the game. With a lon, lean projectable frame, he worked mostly 81-84 mph with downhill action and struck out six in his four innings of work.
Westminster would strike back in the top of the sixth of of reliever Dusty Snyder. A pair of walks and a double from Alex Jacomino would give Westminster a 2-1 lead. The Warriors would add another run in the seventh and hold on to win 3-1.
Despite allowing a run, I really like the arm action and upside of 2021 RHP Joel Pineiro Jr. Son of of former big leaguer Joel Pineiro and the arm really works with fastball at 81-84. @WestminsterAca pic.twitter.com/wI4xO3ekbd
