With the high school regular season coming to a close and district tournaments set to begin in two weeks, it’s time to make an update to the Florida Class of 2020 Rankings. While still only freshmen, this class has already impressed with its depth of talent as seven of the Top 10 players have already committed to play somewhere at the next level. Below are reports on the Top 5 players in the 2020 Class along with a look at how the Top 10 stacks up:
Jackson Miller, C, JW Mitchell HS, FL
Currently ranked No. 1 in the Florida 2020 Class, No. 5 Overall. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound left handed hitting catcher shows an advanced approach offensively with a big leg kick trigger that keeps him on time and balanced throughout his swing. A slightly uphill path, his bat stays in the zone a long time with above average bat speed. Behind the plate, he shows the ability to both receive and block at an above average level, with strong wrists and athleticism. He has above average hands, a quality setup, and will be a plus defensive catcher. Very easy 1.9-2.0 second pop times with a clean transfer and accurate throws.
Victor Mederos, RHP/1B, Coral Reef HS, FL
Miami recruit. Currently ranked No. 2 in the Florida 2020 Class, No. 7 Overall. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. Offensively, he shows upside with present strength and long levers with power potential. On the mound, the young righty shows electric stuff with big upside. From a high-¾ slot he features a fastball that ranges from 90-92 mph, touching 93. He also shows a curveball at 69-72 mph and a cutter at 76-77 mph.
Albert Hernandez, RHP, Archbishop McCarthy HS, FL
Miami recruit. Currently ranked No. 3 in the Florida 2020 Class, No. 9 Overall. Currently stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds with a strong, athletic build. The projectable right hander has been extremely impressive this spring. He has very little effort from a low 3/4 slot with late life on the fastball that sits 89-90 mph. He also displays a sweeping slider at 75-76 mph. Overall, he has big time projection and will continue to throw harder and has a chance to make big time jumps.
Jordan Carrion, SS/RHP, Somerset Academy, FL
Florida recruit. Currently ranked No. 4 in the Florida 2020 Class, No. 11 Overall. The 6-foot, 145 pounder has a lean, athletic, and projectable build. Stands out in the field with advanced, smooth defensive actions. Possesses good instincts and displays good range with light, quick feet. Offensively, the path through the zone works with good barrel control which will generate more consistently as he fills out. On the mound he sits 85-86 mph touching 87 with his fastball showing an extremely quick arm. He also displays the ability to spin an above average curveball for his class at 68-69 mph and a 72-73 mph changeup. High ceiling player.
Nick Gorby, LHP, Port St Lucie HS, FL
Florida State recruit. Currently ranked No. 5 in the Florida 2020 Class, No. 13 Overall. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds with a big, strong build. He has a short, quick arm action where the ball jumps out of his hand at 84-86 mph with life and more velocity to come. He also has shown an above average feel for a 71-72 mph curveball and a 73-74 mph changeup. Overall, the present stuff is solid and projects to continue to make big jumps, but the ability to throw all three for strikes is where he separates himself.
