The 2015 summer season has now come to an end and a good amount of players have made a name for themselves by showing a dramatic improvements over the last year, performing well at big events, and have since made their college commitments. This is especially true for the 2017 class, in which we have been able to come up with a detailed list of the top 100 players in the state of Florida. Even though it is still somewhat early to tell, this 2017 group seems like another strong class that already features dozens of high-level commits and players who will have a serious impact on the 2017 draft.

Unlike the 2016 class, which boasts a power right-handed arm in the No. 1 spot, the 2017 class features an athletic and projectable shortstop who could very well be the top rising junior in the country. Mark Vientos (Flanagan HS) is 6-foot-3, 175-pound Miami recruit. Vientos should be able to stay at shortstop for as long as he wants as he shows advanced defensive abilities while plus bat speed with burgeoning power. And it looks as though Vientos hasn’t even come close to hitting his physical peak.

Coming in behind Vientos is another South Florida standout in Alejandro Toral (Archbishop McCarthy HS). At 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, the left-handed hitting first baseman has a strong, physical body that really shows when you watch him hit. A Miami recruit, Toral features arguably the best left-handed power bat in the country.

The two lone uncommitted players in the top 10 are RHP Robert Touron and OF/1B Oraj Anu. Touron is a slender righty who attends Gulliver Prep in Miami. He possesses a loose, whippy arm and sits in the 87-90 mph range and can run it up to 92 mph with a plus breaking ball. Anu, on the other hand, is a physically gifted switch-hitting outfielder with plus speed and can really drive the ball from both sides of the plate.

Overall, this 2017 class features a good mix of hitters, pitchers, and solid defenders. There are multiple hitters, such as Bubba Sangster, who can drive the ball well over a 400-foot fence in batting practice; multiple pitchers, like Altoon Coleman, who run their fastballs up into the low 90s, and slick-fielding shortstops, such as Freddie Zamora, who are able to make difficult plays look easy. Keep an eye on all of these young men and where some of them will be committing over the next year and how they will make an impact at the next level.
