Unsigned Senior Showcase: Pitcher Analysis

On Feb 5, PBR Illinois hosted the winter’s Unsigned Senior Showcase, as it does each and every winter, at the MAX complex in McCook, Ill., where over 30 prospects participated. These class of 2023 athletes remain uncommitted headed into their final season of their prep careers.

We recently took a look at all of the position players in attendance and today we conclude our analysis of the event with a look at all of the arms.

TOP PITCHING PROSPECTS

1. Aidan Capone, Auburn (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. Athletic build, well-proportioned, room to fill.
Delivery: Up-tempo, athletic delivery, slight coil, in-line at landing spot.
Arm Action: RH. Quick, lively arm, compact arm swing, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T88, 86-88 mph. Life out of the hand, straight. T2598, 2493 average rpm.
SL: 75-76 mph. Developing feel, some depth. T2063, 1980 average rpm.
CH: 75-79 mph. Running action, thrown with intent out of the same slot as the fastball. T2151, 2041 average rpm.

2. Philip Peltes, Duchesne (MO), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/OF
Body: 6-3, 195-pounds.
Delivery: Methodical windup into high leg kick. Works closed downhill.
Arm Action: RH. Continuous arm path into 3/4 slot.
FB: T85, 83-85 mph. Life and ride through zone. Mostly straight. T2312, 2211 average rpm.
SL: 76-79 mph. Tightly spun with horizontal action. Thrown for strikes.  T2436, 2251 average rpm.
CH: 80-81 mph. Developing feel.  T1718, 1630 average rpm.

3. Peter Lemke, St Francis (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-0, 186-pounds.
Delivery: Over head windup into a medium leg lift. Stays closed downhill.
Arm Action: RH. Shorter arm path into low 3/4 slot.
FB: T84, 78-84 mph. Life through the zone with run. Sinker has more run while flashing depth. T2236, 2119 average rpm.
SL: 73-75 mph. Flashed tight horizontal break. Some feel. T2330, 2198 average rpm.
CH: 75-77 mph. Feel for pitch. Late depth with some fade for strikes.  T1734, 1610 average rpm.

4. Jason Sullivan, Sandburg (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-1, 175-pounds.
Delivery: Methodical drop and drive delivery into lower half coil, works down mound in-line to the plate.
Arm Action: RH. Longer arm action into a 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 85-87 mph. Life through zone with some carry, strikes.  T2176, 2123 average rpm.
CB: 71-74 mph. Developing feel, more depth than slider. Thrown low in the zone.  T2113, 2032 average rpm.
SL: 74-76 mph. Tight breaking sweeping action with depth, flashes tight spin.  T2211, 2150 average rpm.
CH: 77-78 mph. Feel for the pitch. Fade and depth for strikes.  T1924, 1870 average rpm.

5. Preston Wallace, Lincoln-Way East  (IL), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 5-11, 155-pounds.
Delivery: Medium leg lift, drop and drive delivery, athletic mover, in-line stride.
Arm Action: RH. Short arm action, loose, 3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 81-83 mph. Mostly straight, some life. T2140, 2007 average rpm.
CB: 70-71 mph. Flashed sweeping movement, 10/4 action, profiles same as slider. T1631, 1586 average rpm.

Delivery: Quiet delivery, repeatable, high leg lift, body moves in-line to plate.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action, reaches back, quick arm, over the top.
FB: T85, 82-85 mph. Sinking action, low in zone.  T2266, 2168 average rpm.
CB: 69-72 mph. 12/6 movement around the zone. T2067, 2019 average rpm.

Body: 6-0, 178-pounds.
Delivery: Up-tempo, big rocker step into medium leg kick with some coil, drop and drive delivery.
