Unsigned Junior Spotlight: OF/LHP Ian Anderson
May 1, 2020
Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Over the last two months, we have been spotlighting several uncommitted seniors to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level in 2021. This month, we will move on to uncommitted 2021's who will be heading into their senior summer.
Next up is uncommitted 2021 OF/LHP Ian Anderson (Lakeland Christian). Anderson is an athletic two-way prospect at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. He stood out this winter at the West Florida Trial and Preseason All-State where he ran a 6.87 60 and registered an exit velocity of 91 mph.

Athletic and strong frame at 6 foot 1, 180 pounds. Loose and short arm action with carry and accuracy on throws. Quality first step and plays through the ball. Crouched setup at the plate with short stride and level bat path with some pull side power. As a LHP throws from the ¾ arm slot and sits 77-79 with the fastball, 64-66 with the curveball with some depth, 68-69 with the changeup with sink. Has average arm speed and command on all pitches.
Tall, lean left-handed arm/right-handed bat. Stands 6-foot-1, 170 pounds. Has some present twitchy strength and can impact the ball to the pull side. Swing is a bit stiff and has the tendency to get around the ball, but showed a good exit velocity of 89. Strong accurate arm in the outfield, but actions can be cleaned up. Body and tools project more on the mound. Throws arms and legs at the hitter with funky motion that does a nice job of hiding the ball. FB topped at 78 and was complemented by a well above average BB at 64-65.
Athletic and lanky body at 6-foot, 165 pounds and room for growth. Long arm action with average strength and has good accuracy. Average hands with good exchange when throwing. Balanced approach at the plate and a smooth load and uses the lower half well. Bat speed is present with exit velocity of 88 mph and gets extension with power potential to pull side. Has some arm side run on his fastball at 75-77 mph. Curveball is near fastball arm speed and some late break. Changeup has fastball arm speed and arm side sink to it. Commands the zone with all three pitches. Has he continues to get stronger the ceiling is high.
At 6-foot-, 165 pounds he has a long, lanky and projectable frame. Ran a 7.1 60 yard dash. Defensively, would like to see more rhythm through the ball in the outfield, topped out at 78 mph with accurate throws and arm works clean. Offensively, he has a wide base and can be rotational at times. The swing path is level through the zone and as he matures and works in the lower half more and works to clear the backside with rhythm he will have offensive upside. On the mound he works with an over the top arm action and a fastball ranging from 74-76 mph. Curveball has shape at 62-67 mph and changeup worked 64-67 mph.
