Prep Baseball Report

Unsigned Junior Spotlight: 3B Damian Goulart

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Over the last two months, we have been spotlighting several uncommitted seniors to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level in 2021. This month, we will move on to uncommitted 2021's who will be heading into their senior summer.

Next up is uncommitted 2021 3B Damian Goulart (Windermere). Goulart has an athletic 6-foot, 190 pound frame with a strong lower half. He was a 2019 Future Gamer and stood out at this year's Preseason All-State. Goulart ranks No. 82 in the PBR Florida Class of 2021 rankings.

Scouting Report

1/18/20

Goulart reads ground balls well and is aggressive in how he makes a play on the ball. The wrists and hands worked in sync with his feet as he showed the ability to field through the ball with momentum toward the throw. Goulart has an aggressive approach at the plate and at times can be a free swinger but engages the lower half well enough that the hands stay back and he can still barrel a pitch up. He is wide and balanced throughout and when he is on time has a smooth swing, with present bat speed evidenced by his 91 mph exit velocity.

8/22/19

A bit handsy in the load but super physical body and swing. 7.36 60-yard dash. Creates good leverage in the lower half, uses big leg lift. Showed present quickness in the hands on offense and defense. Currently, has above average gap to gap power that has the chance to develop into big pop. Clean actions and transfers in the field with an advanced calm and feel playing the position. Got some carry on his throws across at 77-79. Goulart really turned some heads with big tools on workout day, but couldn’t find his rhythm in the box in-game. Turned in a 90 mph exit velocity.

2/08/19

A strong 5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Goulart has leaned up his body as he has matured. Defensively, he works with rhythm and under control. Feet and hands work in sync and is a confident fielder. Soft hands, clean transfer and overall actions to be an above average defender. Offensively, he shows compact and strong actions. Big swing in a small space as the hands enter zone quickly and bat moves upwards through for flyball ability. Working slightly uphill with present bat speed he has strength that generates present power and offensive upside.

9/15/18

Listed at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, appears larger, right-handed hitting infielder, thick, strong frame. Has a strong presence at the plate, intent in swing, looks to drive the ball into the gaps, barrel path works uphill. Made consistent hard contact. Defensively, profiles as a corner infielder, arm action is short and plays across the infield out of a high ¾ slot.

12/16/17

Big strong frame with a strong lower half. Moved well at short, working with rhythm while the hands worked well out in front of his body. Offensively, he gets good separation and use from the lower half. He works slightly uphill and can have some length, but there is power potential and tools. Will be one to follow with added at-bats against higher level arms.
