Team Florida: Future Games & JFG Thursday Recap

The 2023 PBR Future Games and Junior Future Games continued Thursday, July 27 at LakePoint. Team Florida played their first game for the Future Games while 13u and 14u played their second games. Check out recaps of each game.

FG Game 1 vs Mid-Atlantic

Team Florida took on Mid-Atlantic in Game 1 of the PBR Future Games. Charlie Willcox started for Florida going two shutout innings. He allowed just one hit with one strikeout. Florida got on the board first as Bennett Gary drove in an RBI single to go up 1-0. Following Willcox was Eli Blair. Blair went a clean first two innings but ran into trouble in his third.

Florida added to their lead in the fourth as Nick Diaz launched a solo homer to left. In the fifth, a bases loaded walk made it 3-0 Florida. In the bottom of the fifth, Mid-Atlantic got on the board and would eventually take a lead. An RBI triple started the inning, followed by a few walks and errors. Mid-Atlantic went up 4-3 after five.

In the seventh, Florida would tie things up as Bennett Gary homered to right for his second hit of the game. Austin Wiegandt and Dominic Woodward closed out the last two innings for Florida. They combined for two shutout innings and two strikeouts.

After seven innings, the score remained tied 4-4 and that's how the game would finish. Bennett Gary was awarded Player of the Game.

13u Game 2 vs Mississippi

Team Florida 13u took on Mississippi in game two of the Junior Future Games. Aiden Kearney got the start on the mound for Florida. He went three innings while striking out two. Florida got on the board in the first on an Ivan Carballo RBI single. Florida added three runs in the second on a walk and two RBI single from Preston Emmons. Mississippi scored three runs in the third and two in the fourth to got up 5-4. In the fifth, DJ Ford doubled, then Isaias Torres tripled to score two. Torres would later score and Florida went up 7-5. Florida would hold their lead and take this one 7-5.

14u Game 2 vs Alabama

Team Florida 14u took on Alabama in game two of the Junior Future Games. Whit Davis started on the mound for Florida going 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. Alabama scored first on a double in the third, but Florida tied things up shortly after. Alabama put up a five spot in the fourth and went up 6-1. Florida came storming right back with five of their own. Whit Davis double and Hudson Sapp singled helped the Florida runs. Tied 6-6 in the sixth, Alabama scored three on an error. Alabama would close things out in the bottom half and win it 9-6.
