Team Florida: Future Games & JFG Friday Recap

The 2023 PBR Future Games and Junior Future Games continued Friday, July 28 at LakePoint. Team Florida played their first game for the Future Games while 13u and 14u played their third games. Check out recaps of each game.

FG Game 2 vs California

Team Florida took on California in Game 2 of the Future Games. Getting the start was left-hander Thomas Achey. Achey worked two clean innings, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts. Florida struck first as Kiernan O'Neill delivered an RBI single and Nick Diaz an RBI double. Brady Martin came in after Achey going two innings of one run ball with three strikeouts.

In the 6th, Blake Fields came up with a two strike, three RBI triple to give Florida a 5-1 lead. Kiernan O'Neill pitched in relief with a shutout inning and two strikeouts. Reed Biemiller closed out the last two innings with three strikeouts and one run allowed.

Team Florida would go on to defeat California 5-2.

14u Game 3 vs Ohio

Team Florida 14u took on Ohio in Game 3 of the Junior Future Games. Ashton Cox started on the mound for Florida. Cox went 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. Ohio jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. One run in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth. Ohio added more runs in the fifth and went up 11-0. Team Florida was able to get on the board in the fifth. Hunter Wieckowski led off with a single. CJ Wall singled as well and Ethan Savinon drove in a run with another single. 

Team Florida would drop Game 3 11-1 to Ohio.

13u Game 3 vs Kentucky

A nail biter Friday night as Team Florida 13u took on Kentucky. Isaias Torres got the start for Florida going four innings with five strikeouts. Kentucky struck first with a run in the 2nd. Florida came right back with an RBI single from Carter Campbell. Kentucky took back the lead with runs in the 4th and 5th.

Down 7-1 in the last inning, Florida looked to make a comeback. Florida scored on some walks and errors, then Ivan Carballo and DJ Ford drove in runs.  With the tying and winning runs on, Carter Campbell came up big with a two RBI single to walk off and win 8-7. Team Florida advances to the Gold Bracket.
