ROCHELLE, IL – In the 3A Rochelle Sectional Semifinals, Kaneland and Sycamore got into a pitchers duel for the ages. Hits were hard to come by between the two but it was the solo shot off the bat of Sycamore’s Brett Weaver that sent Kaneland packing 1-0.
Sycamore junior RHP, Colan Treml, has been lights out in the playoffs recording the win in each of the three playoff games for Sycamore. In eight days and three playoff games, Treml has thrown 18 scoreless innings and picked up three wins for the Spartans.
Treml let up his only hit of the ballgame in the second on what could have almost been ruled an error. A slow chopper off the bat of Joe Panico got by the lunging third baseman and under the glove of shortstop Michael Swanberg. After that Treml allowed only one other base runner the rest of the way. He retired the last 14 in a row and finished the game with 10 strikeouts.
Standout sophomore, Notre Dame commit Anthony Holubecki (Kaneland) matched Treml pitch for pitch until the fifth when Brett Weaver got a fastball up in the zone that he deposited over the left field fence for a solo home run. Up until that point Holubecki was working on a no-no of his own. Holubecki ended his day with nine strikeouts and two walks, allowing just two hits.
Sycamore advances to the Sectional Championshop on Saturday at 11AM at Rochelle and will await the winner of Thursday’s Rochelle and Boylan Catholic matchup.
