St Thomas Aquinas Tops Doral Thanks to Late Home Runs
February 23, 2018
In game that was dominated by Doral’s Jorge Perez for 5 innings, it quickly turned for St Thomas Aquinas in the sixth following his departure. The left-hander Perez would carry a no-hitter through 5.1 innings of work. Working from an over the top slot, the fastball had down plane action mostly in the 81-84 mph.range. He also showed a curveball with late depth, that proved to be a swing and miss pitch at 70-72 mph.
Doral would jump out to an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a home run from Lency Delgado. That would be all Nate Thomas for Aquinas would allow though, finishing with 5 innings, one run on two hits while striking out five
After a one out walk in the sixth, Perez would be replaced by Dominic Pitelli, who would surrender the go-ahead home run to Cade Fergus. St Thomas would add a third run in the inning thanks to a home run from Andres Antonini as well and go on to win 3-1.
