Today our Spring Forward series takes a look at some left-handed pitchers you won't want to miss pitch in 2019. It starts on the mound and these guys will surely give their team a chance to win every time out. Get out to see some of the guys on this list - you won't be disappointed!

Mason Albright LHP / OF / Catoctin , MD / 2021 2021 Catoctin High School LHP Mason Albright will look to help bolster the pitching staff this season as the Cougars look to revenge their 6-5 loss to eventual MPSSAA Class 1A State Champion Boonsboro last season in the 1A West Regional Semifinals. Albright is committed to Virginia Tech and was up to 85 mph from the left side this past summer. Catoctin’s loss in the Regional Semifinals last season was the furthest they have made it since their Championship run in 2013. Look for Albright to be the X-factor on the mound this year for the Cougars if they are to get over that hump.

Reece Bolton LHP / Salesianum, MD / 2019 Salesianum (DE) senior left-handed pitcher Reece Bolton will look to lead the Sallies on the mound in 2019. The 6’5’’, 210 lb. University of Delaware commit made a jump last season and now sits in the low 80’s topping at 84 mph this summer. Along with fellow seniors Dominic Ragazzo (West Virginia) and Joe Setting (Delaware), the Sallies look poised to make a run for the DIAA Championship in 2019.

Mason Fluharty LHP / 1B / Cape Henlopen (DE), MD / 2019 Fluharty’s role will only increase this season as the Vikings look to repeat as DIAA Champions in 2019. The 6’2’’, 185 lb. lefty throws from a slightly lower three-quarter slot with a quick, compact, controlled delivery and quick arm speed. The Liberty University commit ran it up to 88 mph last spring against Riverdale Baptist with a solid breaking ball and change-up. Look for the Vikings to lean on Fluharty in 2019 after several key pieces from last year’s championship team graduated.

Travis Garnett LHP / 1B / Indian Creek, MD / 2021 University of Maryland commit Travis Garnett stands 6’5’’, 190 lb. on the bump and will be instrumental for Indian Creek this season as a sophomore. The lefty really made a name for himself this past summer in Indianapolis at the PBR Future Games for Team Mid-Atlantic where he ran his fastball up to 86 mph to go along with a 74 mph 12/6 breaking ball and 75 mph change-up. If the Eagles are to repeat this season in the MIAA “C” Conference, Garnett will surely play a big role for them in 2019.

Brock Goodwin LHP / LHP / St. Mary's , MD / 2019 Goodwin made a huge jump between his sophomore and junior seasons and the Saints will lean on him once again in 2019 to anchor the staff. The 6’5’’, 200 lb. lefty has been up to 87 mph with long, free arm action and a curveball, change-up mix. St. Mary’s was the first team not to qualify for the MIAA “A” Conference playoffs last season finishing in 7th place with a 8-10 conference record and 12-15 overall season record. If the Saints are to return to the MIAA “A” Conference playoffs in 2019, the Monmouth University commit will be a big reason why.

Andrew Johnson LHP / OF / Glenelg, MD / 2021 Glenelg will lean on sophomore power lefty Andrew Johnson in 2019 as they look to make a splash in Howard County and the once again stacked MPSSAA 2A South Region. The 5’11’’, 165 lb. University of Maryland commit was up to 87 mph in parts of the summer and will look to lead the Gladiators on the mound in 2019. The Gladiators last won the region when they won it all back in 1998.

Danny Rosenfield LHP / Gilman, MD / 2020 Gilman made a great run in the MIAA “A” Conference playoffs last season and return a majority of their lineup in 2019. Uncommitted 2020 Danny Rosenfield will likely play a key role in the rotation for the Greyhounds in 2019 as they look to make a return to the championship searching for their first title since 2010. Rosenfield is an athletic, lanky lefty that throws with long, loose arm action from a mid three-quarters slot. In the fall, Rosenfield sat 80-81 mph with a 74-77 mph change-up and sharp 69-71 mph breaking ball.

Tyler Russo LHP / Glenelg Country, MD / 2019 The Dragons look poised to compete for another MIAA “B” Conference Championship again in 2019. In order to stop Boy’s Latin’s run of three straight titles and win their first since 2013; the Dragons will rely heavily on the arm of lefty Tyler Russo. The University of Towson commit led the Dragons to the Championship Game in 2018 where they ultimately fell 6-1 to the Lakers at Harford Community College. Russo featured a three pitch mix last year with a fastball up to 81 mph in the Semifinal Game against Gerstell Academy, a change-up and a slider.
