Southern Collegiate League Prospect Report

WINGATE, N.C. — Prospect all-star teams from five different summer college leagues joined up on the campus of Wingate University for the two-day Southeast Collegiate Prospect Showcase this week. Over the next week, I’ll examine some prospects who stood out for each of those five leagues. Today, let’s break down some Southern Collegiate Baseball League prospects of interest.
• The best arm on the SCBL team was Appalachian State junior Joseph Lowder, a lean, projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound righty who ran his fastball up to 93 mph and sat 90-92. Lowder has an over-the-top slot, and his delivery has some effort, with a head whack and some recoil, which causes his fastball command to come and go — but he has obvious arm strength and a good athletic pitcher’s frame. He also mixed in a promising changeup at 79-82 with good fade, and showed the ability to throw it against righties and lefties alike.
