Sophomore State Games Preview
October 30, 2020
The PBR Florida Fall State Games series continues this weekend with the Sophomore State Games. The Sophomore State Games will be held at the beautiful Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Sophomore State Games will feature some of the top 2023 players from around the State of Florida competing to #RepYourRegion against the other regions in the state. Players will be separated into North, South, East, and West Regions. Today, we will preview the rosters for each region. We highlight each player who will be in attendance at the first annual Sophomore State Games.
North Region
Starting with the North, coached by our North Florida Scouting Director CJ Butts. On the mound for the North are a pair of uncommitted right-handers in Isaiah Mamea and Jake Malec, as well as uncommitted southpaw, Hudson Rowan. Behind the plate is uncommitted catcher Ben Barrow. Shortstop Jack Trochessett will be doing some catching as well. At first base is uncommitted Jack Newman. Newman will be pitching as well. At the hot corner are uncommitted 3B Tyler Waters, Brett Dennis, and Jonah Cook. In the middle infield are uncommitted Shawn Andrade, Drew Reaves, and Holden Bradshaw. In the outfield for the North is Notre Dame commit Brody DeLamielleure. Joining Brody are uncommitted Carston Palmer and Casey Morgan. There are a lot of talented uncommitted players on the North squad that coaches should keep an eye out for.
South Region
Moving on to the South region, coached by PBR Florida Executive Director, Doug Freeman. Doug’s team is led on the mound by uncommitted southpaws Pavlos Piperakis and Ayden Elixson. Behind the plate is uncommitted catcher Cayden Freels. At first is uncommitted Justin Breitenstein, and third base is uncommitted Dylan Radtke. Up the middle for the south are brothers Matthew Lashley and Jason Lashley, as well as Robert Nedry, Mauricio Bejarano, and Wesley Loveless. Rounding out the South roster is a loaded outfield featuring Blake Busbee, Zaid Diaz, Dillon Moquin, and Marc Quarrie.
East Region
Next up is the East region. Coached by our East Regional Scout and former Rockies prospect Cayden Hatcher, Cayden’s team is led on the mound by brothers Anthony DeVita and Philip DeVita, as well as southpaw Breydan Calapa. Behind the plate are uncommitted Jace Cleveland and Conner Spelman. At first base are uncommitted Lucas Ramos and Garrett Smith, and third base is uncommitted Wyatt Fordham. Up the middle is Lipscomb commit Caleb Scott, as well as uncommitted Anthony Cole, Wyatt Jenkins, and Matthew Correa. In the outfield is Alabama commit Dallas Dale II and uncommitted Gavin Thomas. The East is talented up and down throughout their roster.
West Region
The West region is coached by myself, Director of Operations/Area Scout Rocco Iervasi. My team is led on the mound by a group of southpaws in USF commit Hunter Dietz, and uncommitted Xavier Brown, Cooper Consiglio, and Ryan Rushing. Behind the plate is Miami commit Kodi Deskins, and uncommitted Alex Monile and Ryland Bozenhard. At first base is uncommitted Bradley Bloxsom. At third base is USF commit Blake Opie and uncommitted Logan O’Donnell. Up the middle is NC State commit Landen Maroudis, USF commit Jacob Riegel, and uncommitted Matt Rose. Rounding out the roster are outfielders Hayden Yost (Florida) and Carter Christy. The West is loaded with both committed and uncommitted talent.
I am excited to watch this young group of players compete this weekend. There is plenty of talent from each region, and the Sophomore State Games title will be sure to come down to the wire.
