Santaluces Standouts
February 18, 2020
The 2020 Spring Season has kicked off and with that comes a lot of kickoff tournament action in south Florida. On opening day I would go check out the Santaluces Slam which would feature eight south Florida teams. While there were plenty of MLB Draft hopefuls on display, there were also several uncommitted players who stood out.
One of the team in attendance was preseason No 1 American Heritage Delray. The Stallions feature a lineup loaded with division 1 talent and a division 1 rotation. 2020 Duke recruit Mason Manriquez was on the mound for the Stallions and would go five innings against Santaluces. Manriquez looks more physical and while the command wasn’t great, the fastball had life at 87-90, topping at 91 mph.
#Duke recruit Mason Manriquez is a bit scattered early, but has made a nice jump. Working 87-90 T91 with some life. @AHD_Athletics pic.twitter.com/faUNkcPzZ4

Offensively, the Pepperine recruit Bailey Uderitz led the way and would homer in the game. He looks to have gotten stronger and that strength plays well. We will have another look at the Stallions tonight as Nelson Berkwich will take the mound.
Palm Beach Central featured two of the top hitters in the state in Michael Brooks and CJ Kayfus. Brooks would jump on one early for a double and Kayfus would later triple. Both players are looking more physical and Kayfus continues to show his advanced ability to turn the barrel while Brooks’ added physicality help play with present bat to ball skills.
#Arkansas recruit Michael Brooks getting things going at Santaluces tonight with this double. A lot of #MLBDraft talent here tonight as we get underway. @GatorsReadDaily pic.twitter.com/imVcu7nL3j

Central would out match Boca Raton, but junior shortstop Ryan Recio stood out defensively with his functional athleticism, quality first step and confident hands with plenty of arm strength. He also showed present bat speed and overall tools to follow.
Have liked the athletic actions at short from Boca Raton's uncommitted 2021 SS Ryan Recio. Has some twitch and some bat speed. A follow this spring. pic.twitter.com/MmrLyccIKE

Dwyer would take on St John Paul in the evening and Dwyer was led by athletic utility player Jacoby Long. Long, who played short, and we have seen in the outfield, is another guy with added strength. He showed his compact, level swing and overall high ceiling with a lot of athleticism.
#Miami recruit of Dwyer Jacoby Long, looks to have filled out and singles here. Showed above average athleticism at Top Prospect Games last fall as well. #MLBDraft pic.twitter.com/7IL2GfP45W

St John Paul would roll out uncommitted 2021 Gavin Adams in relief. Adams is listed at 6-foot-3, 165 pounds and definitely has a long, lanky and projectable from. Working from a low ¾ to almost sidearm slot, he has a whippy arm action and a fastball that worked 83-84 topping at 85. Slider will need to improve, but has some quality shape and action with all around potential.
Uncommitted 2021 Gavin Adams of St John Paul is another interesting uncommitted follow. 6-foot-3, 165lbs, lanky frame with projection. Some deception and late action at 83-84 T85. pic.twitter.com/KXRG3Cglk0

Another uncommitted follow on the evening was RHP Tobin Moran of Pa;m Beach Gardens. Moran has a clean, athletic delivery with a quick arm. He is in line and showed a feel for three pitches, especially an above average changeup. His fastball woud range 84-85 and touch 87 mph once.
Uncommitted 2021 RHP Tobin Moran of Palm Beach Gardens is another interesting follow. 5-11 165, in line, showed feel for 3 pitches, 84-85 T87. pic.twitter.com/eZrf7EUyRK

Offensively, Gardens was led by junior Florida State recruit Cade Bush. Bush would home and single and looks both leaner and stronger while improving his athleticism. The bat plays and profiles to have above average power.
