Rockledge rolls over rival Merritt Island

ROCKLEDGE---These two power house teams got together for a showdown of what was supposed to be a fairly even match up based on their last meeting. However, Rockledge had other things in the mind. The game was one sided from start to finish mostly due to Rockledges’ 2016 LHP Drew Parrish. The Florida St commit dominated the entire game with a two hit, complete game shutout with 12 strike outs. Merritt Island had to tee it up without their regular short stop, Brady McConnell, a Florida commit and their second baseman, Trent Taylor. Both were injured earlier in the year.

It wasn’t all Parrish though as he got plenty of help from his offense and some stellar defense from the likes of 2015 SS Austin Dennis. The Middle Tennessee signee made an acrobatic play up the middle stealing a base hit. The kind of play you only see on TV. Not in a High School game.

Gavin Spinneweber got Rockledge on the board first with a double in the right center field gap in the second inning scoring Michael Hall. Brady Martello followed up with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Mason Studstill, who singled earlier in the inning. Parrish lead off the third with a double in the left center field gap and was knocked in by Tyler Declerq.

2015 RHP Ryan Lang went 3 innings for the Mustangs and gave up 3 runs and was then relieved by 2015 LHP Sam Crocker. The UCF signee threw the 4^th and the 5^th inning only giving up one hit and no runs. 2018 RHP Mason Denaburg came on in the 6^th inning for Merrit Island and that’s when the Rockledge bats came alive. Hall lead off the 6^th with a drag bunt single, Studstill walked and Spinneweber ripped a single for his 2^nd RBI of the game. With two on, Martello hit a double driving in two more runs. Parrish singled again followed by another single from 2016 catcher Trevor Payne. Kevin Clanton then drove in the last run with a base hit. Final score, Rockledge 8, Merrit Island 0.
