Power Baseball Tryout: Standouts
August 20, 2020
Power Baseball held their 2020 Fall tryouts this past weekend in Orlando. Friday featured bullpens for 2021-2024 classes. Saturday a full pro style workout, consisting of defensive evaluations and batting practice. Sunday featured live games for all players. There were many players who stood out from the 2021- 2024 classes. Take a look.
2021
Marcus O’Malley, SS, Barron Collier
O’ Malley really stood out to me with his glove actions at SS. Displayed a quick first step, soft hands, fluid athletic actions, and quick release. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot, long to short/quick arm action. Showed present arm strength, with throws being right on target. O’Malley is an athletic middle infielder that swings from the left side, currently uncommitted.
Diaz has a 6-foot-3 200 lb. large, physical, projectable frame. On the bump he displays actions of a true power right handed reliever with a heavy actioned FB around the zone. FB 88-90 with downhill action and late life. CB 75-76 mph, 11/5 shape with sharp biting action. From the OF, showcased same arm action topping out at 91 mph with on line throws to target. Can easily tell all Diaz wants to do is compete and win on the mound, currently uncommitted, but not for long.
Noah Sullivan, RHP, Dr. Phillips
Stocky, athletic RHP committed to USC-Upstate showed mature repeatable mechanics. Feel for all pitches, commanding the FB to both sides of the plate. FB topped out at 87 mph with late jumpy lift. CB 76-77 mph, throw over/across the plate with a 10/4 shape.
Book has a high waisted, strong bodied, athletic, projectable frame. Works with uptempo mechanics, reaching an athletic balance point, consistent repeatable delivery and release point. FB topped out at 88 mph. Book is uncommitted.
