Player Spotlight: Drew Martin Coming On Strong

Drew MartinOrlando, FL—The Orlando Scorpions tryout always brings out some of the top talent in the state of Florida. One pitcher that stands out as a guy that has really started to come on in the last six months, and that stood out as one of the better arms at the Scorpions workout, was 6-foot-7, 230-pound RHP Drew Martin from the 2017 class(Tampa Jesuit HS, FL). He remains uncommitted.

Martin came to our showcase last August in Gainesville and stood out as a big, tall and young arm with a lot of upside. His fastball had deception with some arm-side run and downhill tilt at 84-86 mph. His slider was a short, tight 3/4 breaker at 74-75 mph. His changeup had the same fastball action at 76-77 mph. At the Scorpions workout, he stepped it up a notch. He showed a loose arm at a 3/4 arm slot with a bit of a sling action to it, getting deep in the back. He hides the ball and lands in line. His front side occasionally pulls off line. He ran his fast ball up to 87-89 mph. His slider was still a short, tight 3/4 breaker at 76-77 mph. His changeup had the same fastball action at 78-80 mph. He occasionally slows his arm to throw it. His stuff is getting a bit tighter with added velocity and he’s not done yet. His arm is still young and the ceiling is still high. I look for Martin to have a good spring and really start to make some noise on the recruiting trails by summer time.
