Pitchers Stand Out In Sebring

Sebring, FL—The FACA All-Star weekend is usually the last hurrah for scouts to see high school players in Florida before the draft. Many players have been attending workouts for individual clubs and just trying to stay in decent game shape since their seasons ended. Whichever the case, players can sometimes be at their best or a little shaky. The environment can get to some, trying to perform one last time in front of scouts to be in the best possible position before the scouts begin to put their draft boards together.
As the three-day event unfolded, some notable performances stood out to as guys that may have done just that—helped themselves out or at least repeated what scouts had seen this spring. Generally speaking, it’s usually the pitchers that stand out because they’ve had plenty of rest and can air it out for two innings. That’s why we typically see jumps in velocity at Sebring. This year was no different as LHP Juan Hillman (Olympia HS, FL) came out and touched 95 mph on the radar gun. Hillman should be a high pick in a couple after having one of the most consistent springs. His curveball comes and goes, but he showed a couple above-average changeups this weekend too.
