Parrish vs. Venice Game Recap
February 25, 2023
Last night I headed down to Venice High School to cover Parrish Community High School Bulls vs. Venice High School Indians. There was quite the crowd under the lights to support their teams. Trent Adrian got the start for Venice. Adrian got into a bit of a jam when Calin Heath led off the game with a double followed by an Aidan Hinkel walk. Adrian worked mostly out of the jam only giving up 1 run. Will Rawls got the RBI. Troy Guthrie got the ball for Parrish. He worked himself into a few jams with walks but got out of all of them, finishing with Six shutout innings allowing only 3 hits.

Things were relatively quiet until Will Rawls hit a 2-out triple in the 3rd but wound up being left stranded at 3rd. Carter Cox led off the bottom half with a single and it looked as if Venice might be able to get to Guthrie but he once again worked around the leadoff single. Mostly clean innings for both teams in the 4th. Venice would threaten again in the 5th when Cox drew a 1-out walk and Jon Embury singled. Guthrie got Jeremiah Pachota to ground into a fielder's choice and then got a huge strikeout to end the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Bulls had back to back singles in the 6th from Matthew Thompsen and Jonathan Maassen but a strikeout and inning ending pickoff got Venice out of the jam.

The ‘24 continues to stay hot. Laces this ball to the wall in LCF for a 3B.

The intensity would only rise as we headed to the 7th. Jabrien Quiles drew a leadoff walk and Alex Tallo bunted for a hit forcing Venice to make a pitching change. Calin Heath then walked to load the bases with no outs for Parrish forcing the Indians to make another pitching change. Nick Dunn enters the game in a tight spot and gets his first batter to strike out. With 1-out Tyler Cripe singles to right field to push the Bulls lead to 2. Dunn then induced a ground ball and catcher Jon Embury made a heads up play for a double play to get out of the inning with only 1 run scoring, in what could've been a much bigger inning. The excitement would continue for Venice as they began to mount their rally. Embury and Pachota drew a 1-out walks followed by a Nick Dunn single to load the bases. A wild-pitch with two outs would bring the Bulls lead to just 1 with two outs and the tying run on 3rd and winning run on 2nd. Jackson Lucas got hit by a pitch to load the bases once again. The rally would end when closer Keegan Duquette got a ground out to end the game.
