Palmquist's CG Shutout Propels Riverdale Past Naples
March 27, 2019
The final game of the day, I would head about an hour south to see 2019 LHP Carson Palmquist take on Naples. While the velocity wasn’t the best we have seen it, Palmquist would not disappoint either, as he would show the same ability he has for the last year to get swing a misses on his fastball. Working from a slightly lower 3/4 slot, the fastball sat mostly 84-86 mph touching 87 and 88 mph in the first. He would go on to throw a complete game shutout, striking out fifteen hitters and would get eighteen swing and misses on that fastball. He also showed a sweeping slider with some down action at times in the 72-76 mph range that would also get quite a few swing and misses and a changeup at 80 mph. The lanky left-hander has a ton of room to add strength and the low 3/4 slot has plenty of deception with overall feel to pitch.
Headed a little south to check out #Miami recruit LHP Carson Palmquist. Worked 83-86 T88 from righ, low 3/4. Showed CH and two quality sliders for 2 Ks. @NathanRode pic.twitter.com/GyFUvHb9Nm

2019 Andrew Lang would get the start for Naples and was impressive, especially in the first. Working at 87 mph in the first, he works with some length in the backside, but has a quick and and worked downhill with the fastball. He also showed and above average curveball, with hard, late depth that proved to be a swing and miss pitch at 74-75 mph. While Riverdale would score three runs on seven hits, Lang would also strike out 11 batters through five innings of work.
Despite allowing 3 runs in the 2nd, Naples 2019 RHP Andrew Lang is an interesting follow. North Georgia recruit, downhill at 84-87 and showing an above average, swing and miss slider. #PBRspinzone @NaplesHS pic.twitter.com/9TtORWrtwg

Riverdale’s offense was led by sophomore third baseman Austin Douglas, who has a stocky frame, present strength and showed bat to ball skills, going 3-4 with three singles and an RBI. Christian Boyles and Richard Belcher would also have multi-hit games in the 8-0 win over Naples.
Palmquist finishes off an impressive, complete game shutout. Allowed 1 hit, 1 walk and 15 Ks in the 8-0 win. Sat 83-86 through 7 with 18 swing and misses on the fastball. @RiverdaleReads @NathanRode @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/75MwLHirHz
