PDQ Player of the Week: Blake Wright & Daniel Vassallo
April 23, 2019
The Week 8 PDQ Player of the Week Powered by PBR belongs to two players, a hitter and a pitcher. It was too close to call just one of them player of the week, that we decided to honor both for their performances during the week.
The Week 8 PDQ Hitter of the Week is SS Blake Wright (Clearwater Central Catholic, 2020; South Florida). Wright went 7-for-10 at the plate on the week. On Monday (4/15), he started his week off with a 1-for-2 performance that included a home run. Then on Tuesday (4/16), against rivals Calvary Christian, Wright delivered a 4-for-4 night with two doubles and a walk off grand slam with two outs. Wright was responsible for all six runs in Clearwater Central Catholic's big win. Finally, on Thursday (4/18), Wright capped off his week by going 2-for-4.
The Week 8 PDQ Pitcher of the Week is RHP Daniel Vassallo (Carrollwood Day, 2020). Last Thursday (4/18) against St. Francios, Vassallo did what most pitchers only dream about, throw a perfect game. Leading his team to an 8-0 victory, Vassallo retired 21 straight batters over seven innings, striking out eight of them. He also added four hits in at-bats with three RBI, including the game winner over district foe Seffner Christian.

Continued to stand out offensively where he consistently found the barrel during batting practice, spraying line drives all over the field deep into the gaps. The hands are quick and he shows a confident approach with a short, quick swing. Takes smart at-bats and jumps on the fastball. Barreled an RBI single into left field during game play while also registering a 90 mph exit velocity in the cage off a tee. In the field he shows athletic actions, range, and sure hands. Throws to the bag are accurate and topped out at 80 mph. As Wright continues to fill out his frame he should see a jump in power at the plate. High uncommitted follow that shouldn’t be uncommitted for too much longer.
