No 18 Plant City Come Back in the 7th To Win 2-1 Over Bloomingdale
April 17, 2019
A cross county, district rivalry produced one of the better pure baseball games of the season. No 18 Plant City matched up against Bloomingdale on Tuesday night and with talent up and down both rosters, the game was bound to be an exciting one.
Jarod Wingo would get the start for Plant City, striking out the first two batters he faced. He worked mostly 84-85 mph, but the fastball had riding life and got a lot of swing and misses. He also showed a solid curveball at 68 mph. Nico Saladino matchup up against Wingo for Bloomingdale and matched him pitch for pitch. Saladino worked mostly 83-85 mph and showed an above average curveball at 72-74 mph with late depth.
Wingo would not allow a baserunner until the third, when a pair of walks would bring up the highly touted 2020, Brock Wilken. Wilkem would deliver with a two strike, RBI double, the first hit of the game for Bloomingdale and would give them a 1-0 lead. Proving to be a big play in the game, Plant City would cut down the second runner trying to score to end the third inning.
Saladino would end up going 5+ innings, allowing no round on four hits, but would be in big part to reliever Riley Moore. Moore would relieve Saladino with the bases loaded, no one out and a 3-0 count on the batter. Moore would manage to come back, strike out the hitter and induce a double play to end the inning.
Tyler Dowdy would come on in relief of Wingo, but Wingo would still have a major impact on the game offensively. After a Demario Williams led off the seventh inning being hit by a pitch, Wingo would fail to get his bunt attempt down twice. With two strikes, he would then double, allowing Williams to show off his plus speed, scoring from first to tie the game.
Casey Mawhinney would then but Wingo over to third and the Stetson recruit Cade Shissler would drive a fastball deep to left field, scoring the go-ahead run.
