Kurland, Reader lead Berkeley Prep to District Championship

Thursday Night for the District Championship. Berkeley Prep took on Tampa Catholic. Both teams had their aces going with Rivers Kurland for Berkeley and Danny Lazaro for TC. Lazaro went three innings for the Crusaders. He allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four.

For Berkeley, Rivers Kurland went all seven throwing a complete game. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out eight.

Berkeley Prep opened the scoring in the second inning as Josh Herrmann singled in the first run of the game. In the third, Troy Reader added two more runs with a two RBI single to go up 3-0.

Tampa Catholic answered in the fourth with their first run of the game. Maddox King doubled down the line to make it 3-1.

In the fifth, Berkeley was back on the scoreboard as Troy Reader collected his second hit of the game. This time with a solo home run to left.

In relief for Tampa Catholic was right-hander Roman Corinti. Coriniti struck out five over four innings and was up to 86 mph with his fastball.

In the sixth, Tampa Catholic would get one run to make it 4-2, but it wouldn’t be enough. Berkeley Prep added three runs in the seventh and won the District Championship 7-2.
