Kris Armstrong Leads Benjamin to 2-1 win with Home Run

Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

What was a pitching duel between Benjamin Academy and American Heritage Delray, would be won by the starting pitcher for Benjamin’s bat. Kris Armstrong would get the start for Benjamin, going four innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out seven. Armstrong worked mostly 89-91 touching 92 mph and seemingly improved as the outing went on. He mixed a slider that showed a hard, sweeping action and as better when in the 80-81 mph. He also mixed in a curveball and showed a feel for the changeup.

2020 Stanford recruit Ryan Bruno would get the start for American Heritage.Bruno would come out working 86-88 mph with a more compact arm action and showing a feel for a curveball and changeup. Bruno would hold Benjamin in check through four innings, striking out six. Isiah Thomas would lead off the fifth, being hit by a pitch. Kris Armstrong, after exiting the game on the mound in the fourth, would hook a fastball that could’ve easily been called foul , for a go-ahead home run.

Heritage would score in the sixth, but a ground ball with the infield in to the first baseman and a great play by the catcher would eliminate the tying run at the plate. Benjamin would set Heritage down in order in the seventh to clinch the district title
