Willie Burger (Lancaster Catholic HS) is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound catcher that has shown consistent sub-2.0 pop times to go with good blocking and receiving skills. He has a very strong lower half and has demonstrated legitimate power to the pull side. The two-way prospect has the ability to play both corner infield positions and has also shown the ability to run the baseball to the plate in the high 80s off the mound. Burger is the highest ranked Pennsylvania prospect in the Class of 2015 that is uncommitted at No. 7.
Burger is coming off a sophomore season in which he hit .405 with a staggering 20 of his 34 hits going for extra bases. He totaled 13 doubles, a triple and six home runs, while driving in 28. He was nearly as impressive on the mound going 5-0 with a 0.78 ERA. Burger overpowered hitters to the tune of 57 strikeouts in 36 innings of work.
Burger has spent the summer and fall sifting through his college options and making visits. Although he has demonstrated success on the mound, it is unlikely that he will do so at the next level.
