SARASOTA, FL - This past weekend at the Baltimore Orioles Spring Training Complex in Sarasota, FL, the PBR Junior Future Series Spring Championships took place. THis two day tournament featured pool play on Saturday followed by bracket play on Sunday. The 13U age group was won by the (1) Gulf Coast Monarchs. The Monarchs defeated (2) Next Level Prospects Blue by a score of 8-6. The 14U side of the bracket was an all Midland Swarm affair. (1) Midland Swarm Select took down (2) Midland Swarm Prime 18-9.

14U

Midland Swarm Select

Jacob Riegel stood out at the plate for Midland. A right-handed hitter he showed the ability to create leverage and drive the ball from gap-to-gap. On the infield, he showed competent hands and was consistent on throws.

Alex Lopez showed an athletic arm from the outfield, making throws on a line and on target. Even had the confidence to attempt to throw a runner out at first base from left field.

Isaiah Myles plays the game in an overall athletic manner. Hands work quick and strong at the plate, generating gap-to-gap potential. Defensively, spent some time behind the plate, looked comfortable, received well for age. Displayed quick feet and a clean transfer on throw downs.

Juan Carlos Vega is an athletic prospect with advanced arm strength for age. The right-hander’s arm works loose and athletically form a ¾ slot. His fastball worked 79-83 with armside run, while mixing in a sweeping breaking ball. Defensively moved quickly, covers ground well laterally, arm plays

Turn2 Baseball

Austin Schrowe is an athletically built outfielder and left-handed pitcher. Offensively, left-handed hitter, shows a gap-to-gap approach, makes hard contact. Above-average runner, legged out two triples in one game.

Joey Citrola had one of the more physical frames of the event, present strength with wide shoulders. Right-handed hitting third baseman, managed the batters’ box with a presence, looked to drive the ball to the pull-side for power. De

Southern Squeeze

Ty Townsend stood out offensively for the squeeze. A right-handed hitter, showed strength in his lower half. Takes a power approach at the plate, looks to drive the ball to the pull-side.

Florida Burn Premier

Tristan McGregor showed good fastball command along with an easy ¾ delivery. Possesses long levers with an athletic frame to build off of.

Peter Liakakos has big, strong lower half for age. A right-handed pitcher, has a short quick arm action. Starts with back leg broken in the stretch, tall and fall delivery.

Abel Albarran is a tall, athletic prospect with smooth hands and plus arm at shortstop. Was able to make a few long throws with great accuracy. On the mound, arm worked athletically out of a ¾ slot. Fastball featured armside run.

Will Maguire is athletic prospect with plus bat speed. He handled the bat well this weekend, showing the ability to keeps his hands inside the baseball. Possesses a plus arm and great range for a second baseman. 

 

13U

Gulf Coast Monarchs

Gavin Ziccardi collected multiple hits and made hard contact all weekend long, showed signs of power potential. Behind the plate blocked balls in the dirt well.

Cole Sandifer was a consistent performer all weekend both at SS and at the plate. Strong, athletic frame, consistently found barrels, generating gap-to-gap type contact. Defensively, confident in abilities, attacked every play, not afraid to let it go on throws across the infield.

Anthony Pimentel has a long, lanky frame, that he uses well on the mound, creates good tilt. With continued growth, length and slot will help create difficult angles for opposing hitters..

Justin Czerniak was a catalyst for the Monarchs on their march to winning the championship. A standout offensive prospect, has a strong, physical frame for age at 5-foot-8, 165-pounds. Started in center field and hit in the leadoff spot. Made consistent hard contact, looks to drive the ball.

Michael Maradona, another standout offensive prospect from the Monarchs, spent time at third base and second base defensively, hitting out of the four hole. Found the barrel consistently, producing line drive contact.
 

Next Level Prospects Blue

 

Bryson Delavina took a power approach at the plate, looked to turn on the ball and elevate to the pull-side. Hit one out of the park fall down the left field line (330 feet). Strong lower half helps generate sneaky power for a little guy, quick on the basepaths, hit inside-the-park homer

Jason Coss stood out defensively and at the plate. Defensively at shortstop he fielded the position athletically, making seemingly every play up the middle. At the plate, he showed the ability to hit for power and contact.

Jacob Lozano did it all for Next Level. An overall athletic prospect, he played almost every position on the field. Stood defensively behind the plate, sets up in an athletic position, flexible, fluid footwork. Arm works athletically and short. Offensively, took a line drive approach, gap-to-gap potential.
 

Midland Swarm Apache

Ethan Burkhardt is a right-handed pitcher, strong lower half. Works out of a high ¾ slot, easy effort, strike thrower.

Carl Furr is a long, lanky prospect, athletically built, right-handed pitcher and outfielder. On the mound works out of an over-the-slot, creates good tilit on fastball. At the plate showed bat speed and a line drive approach.
