Jesuit vs Bloomingdale: Scout Notes
February 22, 2022
Tampa, FL - I headed over to Jesuit High School last night for my first regular season action of the 2022 high school season. The game featured a matchup of our #2 ranked team Jesuit taking on #12 Bloomingdale. Jesuit would take this one 4-1. Both teams featured a ton of talent, but check out who stood out last night.
Bloomingdale
Jack Owens, RHP, 2022 (Stetson)
Owens is an athletic two-way who has really separated himself on the mound over the last year. A consistent in game performer, Owens battles against some of the top opponents and continues to get better each year. A little undersized at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, but pitches way above that frame. Works up tempo with athleticism in his delivery. Quick arm from a high ¾ slot. Owens worked 90-92 mph and ran the fastball up to 93 mph, a new PR for me. Above average spin on the fastball topping at 2501 rpm. The breaking ball however is his best pitch. An 11/5 curveball with sharp breaking action up to 2834 rpm. Owens would get the start for Bloomingdale going five innings. He would allow four runs (three earned), with three walks, four hits, and eight strikeouts. Owens worked both sides of the plate for strikes and mixed speeds well. Generated a lot of soft contact and was able to get plenty of swings and misses. Despite allowing four runs, Owens looked sharp in the season opener.
