Gainesville, Fl --- The Florida Underclass Games saw a very good athlete in Brandon Walker from North Florida Christian who was up to 86 mph off the mound and a really athletic position player. He showed quickness and strength in the bat and looked like an above average runner. He will be fun to follow throughout his High School career. RHP Dylan Simmons from Trinity Christian Academy is also a very interesting young arm. He was up to 84 mph with a big body, and also swung the bat with some strength and quickness. Parker Aultman from Graceville High School was a very physical, athletic catcher with some present strength in the bat already. Here’s a look at the top 2019 prospects from the showcase.
Brandon Walker, RHP/SS, North Florida Christian, 2019
6-foot, 170 pounds, very athletic kid with good tools that is already put together physically. A great body with a high ceiling. On the mound, Walker had a long loose live arm at a high ¾ slot. His fastball was 84-86 mph with arm side run and glove side cut action. The curve ball was 69-71 mph with a downer type tight rotation. He takes the ball out past his hip, lands across his body and occasionally gets around the ball. He has a very quick arm but occasionally leaves it behind from the stretch which effects his release point out front. Delivery is fluid. Just needs to repeat delivery more consistently to improve command.
Hard to say at this stage where Brandon Walker will end up on the field. A lot will depend on how his body and skills develop in the coming years. Physical maturity and training will take care of his body, and reps will help fine tune his skills. Right now I would say he has a chance to be a good 2 way guy in college and will begin to attract college recruiters’ attention soon.
Dylan Simmons, RHP/C, Trinity Christian Academy, 2019
6-foot-2, 185 pound right hander with a tall loose lean athletic body with a loose live arm with very good arm speed. On the mound he uses his lower half well and gets very good extension. He could stay over his backside a little longer and he occasionally falls off towards 1B but for the most part everything is in line. Long, loose over the top arm action. Fastball sits 80-83 and touches 84 mph. 67-69 mph curveball that has a tight, downward action. Simmons is a definite division I prospect who will likely be receiving attention soon. Also swings the bat with authority.
Parker Aultman, C, Graceville HS, 2019
5-foot-11, 155 pound catcher with a young athletic projectable strong body. Very athletic physical body for his age. Loose quick bat with present bat speed and strength. Aggressive approach. Occasionally too aggressive. Can get out front but can drive ball for such a young guy. Will have future power in the bat. Exit bat speed velocity of 72 mph. Shows arm strength behind the plate with some accuracy. Continues to improve. Young athletic guy with a lot of upside. Had a pop time of 2.02 seconds and a velocity of 73 mph.
Dawson Fietsam, OF/LHP, Trinity Christian Academy, 2019
5-foot-7, 145 pound outfielder/pitcher with a loose athletic body on a smaller frame. Loose actions in the outfield with good aggressive routes to ball. Fields through ball with a good release. Occasionally will take an extra step. Loose arm with accuracy. Has an open stance at the plate with a loose quick bat. Slasher type swing. Works down through the ball and gets a lot of back spin. Short swing with pull approach. Aggressive with the bat. Body hasn’t even started to develop yet. A lot of upside.
Jud Fabian, OF/LHP, Trinity Catholic, 2019
5-foot-9, 145 pound outfielder/pitcher with a lean loose athletic projectable young body. Good outfield actions with a good release. Throws had some carry. Loose quick bat with a good path. Barrel stays in zone. Some length in swing but gets good extension. Good load and separation. Aggressive with the bat. Overall game will improve with physical maturity.
Eric Adler, OF/RHP, Melbourne Central Catholic, 2019
5-foot-10, 145 pound outfielder/pitcher with a loose lean athletic projectable young body. Loose outfield actions with a good release. Slows down a bit to field the ball and occasionally takes an extra step but has coordination. Loose arm with carry on throws. Outfield velocity was 80 mph. Has quickness in the bat with a line drive type stroke. Gap to gap type approach. Occasionally cuts his swing off. Will develop power with physical maturity. Body has a lot of upside.
