Saturday, July 14, the University of Central Florida in Orlando hosted PBR’s Florida Trials. This event was open to all high school graduating classes (2019 to 2022) and served as an integral identifier for upcoming high-profile, invite-only events, like All-State Games and Future Games, as well as Preseason All-State and the national Super 60 showcase.

Over the course of the next week we will break down each and every player in attendance. We have announced the Future Games and All State Games Invites, and will announce top standouts following all of the positional breakdowns. Today, we take a look at the pitcher only in attendance, in no particular order:

 

 

Chris Coll RHP / Lake Nona, FL / 2020 Stands at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds. Simple, compact delivery. Lands in line and works from a high 3/4 slot. Attacked the zone with a fastball that ranged from 77-80 mph. Showed ability to spin a slider, with some depth, at 67-68 mph. Also, showed a feel for a straight changeup at 72-74 mph. Shows feel to pitch with all three pitches, struck out three in two innings of work and should see jump in velocity as he matures and adds strength.

Nicholas DiMiceli LHP / 1B / Clearwater Central Catholic , FL / 2019 Physical, 6-foot-1, 195 pound left-hander has a strong lower half. Has a clean separation, works with a high front side and lands in line. Has a full arm swing and worked from a high 3/4 slot with a fastball ranging from 74-78 mph. Showed a feel for a fading changeup at 68-71 and a short slurve at 66-67 mph with depth when on top of the ball at extension. Physical with a clean arm action and some present feel, should make a jump in velocity.

Steven Hotinski RHP / 3B / Wharton, FL / 2020 5-foot-9, 180 pounds. He has a compact arm action and threw from an over the top slot. The fastball ranged from 72-82 mph and had some cut at times. He gets quality extension, but can cut himself off at times. Showed at 65-67 mph and a changeup at 69-70 mph.

Nicolas Lorenzo LHP / Lawton Chiles, FL / 2018 The 5-foot-11, 175 pound left hander had a thick, strong frame. He has a simple, repeatable delivery. With a full arm swing he worked from a high 3/4 and featured a fastball that ranged from 78-81 mph. Is slightly crossfire at times, creating some deception. Showed a curveball at 66-69 mph and a changeup at 71-72 mph. Shows some feel and could be a late add left-hander who has a feel to pitch.

Jonathan McMath LHP / 1B / Nature Coast Technical, FL / 2020 A long, lean, broad shoulder and projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. The left hander has a long to short arm action, which can be tough to repeat, it causes some deception. The fastball has some life and worked from 79-82 mph. With added strength and as he lengthens and cleans the arm swing, he could see a big jump in velocity. When he got to extension, he showed the ability to really spin a curveball with depth at 65-66 mph. Also showed a changeup at 71-73 mph. Struck out a pair in his two innings of work.
