Florida State Games 17U Day One Recap
June 1, 2019
On June 1st-4th, 2019 at IMG Academy, the Baltimore Orioles Complex, and the Atlanta Braves Complex, PBR Florida will host the 2019 Florida State Games. This years event features 60+ teams from 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions. The event will feature four pool play games followed by single elimination bracket-play until the first champion is crowned. Today we take a look at some of the standouts of day one in the 17U division.

Caiden Peeples RHP / N/A, FL / 2020Went 5 innings and commanding the zone with all his pitches. His fastball was sitting 84-86 and working downhill with it, curveball 72-73 with some depth and changeup at 70-71 with good fastball arm speed. Peeples has a strong frame at 6 foot 3 inches and 225 pounds, but could use the lower half better. |
Michael Chylinski 3B / OF / Olympia, FL / 20205 foot 10 inches and 160 pounds- Athletic frame and good first step defensively with an average arm with some carry. Michael has soft hands with fluid footwork and fields with a clean exchange while playing through the ball. Balanced approach at the plate and has barrel awareness. Hits line drives and has a level bat path and with good bat speed. |
Justin Clark RHP / Ft Myers, FL / 20202020 Justin Clark- 6 foot 2 inches and 150 pounds- Lanky and athletic frame with room for growth. Works downhill with his pitches and fastball sitting 84-86, slider 72-73, changeup 71-72 with command of all his pitches. Clean arm action with easy effort while delivery staying in line to home plate. |

Zach DeVito RHP / SS / Newsome, FL / 20202020 Tulane commit - 5 foot 11 inches and 155 pounds. Athletic and lanky frame with room for growth and moves well on and around the mound. Clean arm action with good arm speed with fastball sitting 87-88, curveball 69-70. Commands all pitches for strikes and works low in the zone, while near fastball arm speed on off speed pitches. Good balance point with effortless rhythm while delivery is in line to home. |
Luis Misla LHP / Riverview, FL / 20205 foot 11 inches and 170 pounds. Athletic and lanky frame with room for growth. Good and loose arm action with arm side run on the fastball sitting 84-86 and curveball 69-70. Is a bit erratic with mechanics, but when he stays in line with delivery to home, he throws strikes. Curveball has good depth and is near the same arm speed as his fastball. |
Cole Stallings RHP / OF / Newsome, FL / 2020Stetson recruit. Worked 84-87 with a smooth arm action and delivery. Big body. 12-6 breaking ball at 74 with some bite. Overall, he is a physical right-hander who has a feel to pitch with two above average pitches and upside. |
Jackson Hobbs 1B / OF / Bloomingdale, FL / 2020Hobbs impressed on both offense and with the glove. He made a great diving play to his right to prevent a run. Balanced, calm approach at the plate. Incorporates leg kick for his timing. Multiple barreled balls throughout the day including a 2B. |

Campbell Cleveland C / Auburn, AL / 2020With a strong base and above average arm, Cleveland popped between 1.95-2.05 consistently. |
Jay Thomason 3B / 1B / Auburn, AL / 2020Was solid on both sides of the ball for Southern Squeeze. His short and whippy swing from the left side led to several hard hit balls throughout the day. Smooth actions and above average arm on defense |
Myles Hedgecock RHP / Cardinal Newman , SC / 2020Athletic frame at 6 foot 4 inches and 165 pounds. Sidearm pitcher that has good sink on the fastball sitting at 75-77 and slider at 63-64 with late break. Works low in the zone to get ground balls and his athletic on the mound |

Eli Thurmond C / RHP / Bradenton Christian School, FL / 202083-85, topped at 86. Thurmond has a big frame that will allow for more velocity to be added. Breaking ball was 74-77 with good spin and depth. Arm action can be cleaned up. |

Jim Brown 1B / RHP / Bremen, GA / 20206 foot 3 inches and 215 pounds. Strong and athletic frame and moves athletically on the field. Good arm with an average first step. Hands and footwork move together and has a good exchange. Balanced approach at the plate with a strong lower half that explodes to the zone. Level bat path through the zone with some power to all the fields and good barrel awareness. |

Kyle Murphy OF / RHP / JW Mitchell, FL / 20206 foot 1 inch and 185 pounds. Strong athletic frame with strong lower half. Arm side run on his fastball sitting 87-90, good depth on his curveball sitting 72-73 while working low in the zone with most of his pitches. Good balance point while working in line with his delivery to home plate. Balanced approach at the plate and barrel awareness hitting gap to gap for power.
