Chet Lemons Winter Camp was not only full of some top 2016 talent but I also took a few notes on some very interesting 2017 talent. The following players stood out from the 2017 class:
+ RHP Hunter McMullen (Ocala Forest HS, 2017) is a 6-foot-3, 210 pound right hander with a loose projectable body and strong hips and thighs. High 3/4 slot with a loose quick easy working arm. Fastball jumps out of his hand at 87-89 mph. Slider is 72-74 with a short tight 3/4 break. Occasionally breaks two planes. Changeup is 75-76 with good feel. Lands slightly across his body. Hides ball in the back. Has deception. Very projectable arm. Will throw much harder with physical maturity. Has a chance to be a 2017 draft.
+ SS/2B Deandre Shelton (West Orange HS, 2017) is a 5-foot-8, 160 pound middle infielder with a strong athletic young body and a muscular lower half. Good actions and hands in infield with very good fielding mechanics. Close to an average major league arm. Has the instincts to stay in the middle of the infield. Short quick compact stroke from both side. Quickness in hands and stays inside the ball well. Gap to gap type approach. Good all around player whose bat will continue to improve with added strength. Son of Harry Shelton, ML scout for MLSB.
+ SS/2B Bobby Head (West Orange HS, 2017) is a 5-foot-9, 150 pound middle infielder with a loose lean very young projectable body. Good actions in infield with good hands and quick feet. Has enough arm for shortstop but more suited for second base. Can play both. Aggressive reads and routes Comes and gets ball. Makes all of the routine plays. Loose bat with some quickness and a good path. Good hand eye. Whole game will improve with added strength. Very scrappy. Hustles. Plays with energy. Son of Bob Head current Head Football Coach at West Orange HS.
+ OF/1B Oraj Anu (Home School, 2017) is a 6-foot-1, 200 pound outfielder and first baseman with a tall athletic muscular live projectable body. A physical specimen and still very young. Crude actions in outfield with a lot of arm strength. Above average major league arm now. Is ambidextrous. Throws right handed from outfield and throws left handed from first base. Has decent actions at first base. Swing has quickness and strength. Has big power from both sides of the plate with a lot more power to come. Shows present bat speed. Has a handsy swing. Really throws the barrel. Swing has some length with leverage. A very unique athlete. Ran a 6.5, 60. His tools will profile more in outfield. Has tools to become a 2017 draft. Will benefit from reps and instruction. Very high ceiling. Mother was an Olympic sprinter and Father played football at UF. Is homeschooled and doesn't play on a HS team in the Spring. Will play travel ball in summer.
