As the high school baseball season gets cranked up in the Sunshine State, we take a look at our predictions for the top 20 high school prospects in the state for the 2016 draft. Last year, there were 49 Florida preps taken in the draft with 25 of them signing. The 2016 list will certainly change as the spring season unfolds and players will perform higher or lower than expectations. Injuries can certainly hinder a player’s performance or limit the number of looks he gets, and signability will certainly be a major factor. There could also be a guy or two that pops up that we haven’t seen yet, or seen well.
At the top of the list is RHP Austin Bergner (Windermere Prep, FL), who has been deemed a first round guy since he was a sophomore. He transferred to Windermere Prep his junior year and has also been playing shortstop. He’s athletic and a good shortstop, but his future is on the mound. He will be heavily scouted this year and his stuff and command will need to be consistent to keep him in that first round discussion.
