Lakeland, FL—The Florida Diamond Club takes place each year in mid-October and consists mostly of the top prospects for the current draft class in the state of Florida and Puerto Rico.
Diamond Club is a three-day event that consists of four teams. Each team goes through a pro-style workout, batting practice, and two 10-inning games over the course of the three days at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Over the next few days we will go team by team with reports on every player in attendance this year. Today, we will break down Team South’s (Rockies) top five players, followed by the best of the rest.
IsAiah Thomas OF / The Benjamin School, FL / 2018Vanderbilt recruit. Is one of the most explosive athletes in the class.Offensively he is extremely interesting, he has present bat speed, but can cut himself off and not clear his backside at times. There is present power and big power potential and when the tools click the ceiling is maybe the highest in the class. Defensively, showed a quick first step and good closing speed in the outfield. During the game he made a tough play on a hard hit line drive where he laid out and made a diving catch while playing centerfield. The high end tools and plus speed make him extremely intriguing.
