Florida Classic Day Four Scout Blog

The 2020 PBR Florida Classic kicked off Friday, July 3rd at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, The event features teams from the 16u and 17u age groups. Each team is guaranteed four games with championships on Monday.

Leo Diaz C / OF / Oakleaf, FL / 2022Strong, stocky frame. Exit velos consistently sitting 94-95 mph off bat. Gap to gap power, comfortable hand actions in the box. |
Stone Frishman 2B / OF / Lakewood Ranch, FL / 2021Rankings StateRank: 95 / POS: 1
Athletic gamer who can play multiple positions on the field. Was 2 for 3 on the day with an RBI triple to deep right-center. Hit tool is present and has a knack for finding the barrel.

Alexander Haire OF / RHP / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 123 / POS: 26
Haire was hitting the ball all over the place on Monday with five hits on the day to help the Roos secure the 18U championship. Athletic outfielder consistently finds the barrel and uses the whole field with a gap-to-gap approach.

Derek Martinez C / Camden County, GA / 2021Large, strong framed catcher. Was 3 for 3 on the day with three RBI. He launched a fastball over the left center wall for a home run that came off the bat at 96 mph. |
Justin Montanez OF / RHP / Nature Coast Tech, FL / 2021Low 3/4 arm slot, working up tempo. FB 83-86 arm side sink, CH 74-75 arm side fade/run. Slider 69-72 left to right action. Montanez is an all round two-way athlete. |
Cesar Reynosa RHP / N/A, FL / 2021Reynosa is an interesting arm to follow as his stuff can be electric at times. Lanky frame, Reynosa struggled with command a bit but when he got to his balance point, the fastball was live. 87-91 with life. Elite spin rates of over 2600 rpms. Raw and intriguing arm. |
Zachary Showalter RHP / Wesley Chapel, FL / 2022The USF commit pitched in relief and displayed a hard, heavy fastball. Athletic 6-foot-1, 205 pound frame. Fastball sitting 88-92 with late run. Above average breaking ball with depth at 67-69. |
Todd Velotta 3B / Cardinal Mooney, FL / 2021Velotta had himself a game in the 18U semifinals. 2 for 4 and reached base three times. Medium frame with a quick bat. Gap-to-gap hitter as he put two balls in the deep right-center gap for a double and triple.

Avery Von thaden RHP / 2B / East Lake, FL / 2021Athletic right hander came in relief for the Roos and pounded the strike zone. Balanced delivery coming from a high ¾ arm slot. High effort arm, was sitting 83-86 with his fastball and topped out at 87 mph. Four strikeouts in three innings of work.
