Florida 2023 Rankings Update
September 5, 2022
Another week, another rankings update. This week we move on to the 2023 class. The ‘23s head into their Draft year as one of the most talented classes we’ve had down in Florida. Bats and arms combined, this class is loaded. Take a look at our top 5 of the class as well as some key risers, and more.
Continuing to hold down the top spot is 3B Aidan Miller (JW Mitchell). Miller has been the top player in Florida since the initial release of these 2023 rankings. Arkansas commit is a physical 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Elite hit tool with plus bat speed and juice to all fields. Miller tore up the 2022 summer circuit and was recently named to Team USA 18u. Expect to hear Miller’s name called on Day 1 of the 2023 MLB Draft.
At No. 2 is a newcomer to Florida in LHP Cam Johnson (IMG Academy). The LSU commit heads to IMG for his senior year after previously attending school in Maryland. Johnson is a big southpaw with a lot of arm strength at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds. Johnson sits mid 90s and can run it up to 95+ at times. ¾ arm slot. Throws changeup for strikes with a wipeout slider as well. Johnson should impress the Florida area scouts with his stuff this spring.
No. 3 in the FL 2023 class is 3B/SS Braden Holcomb (Foundation Academy). The Vandy commit sits 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and has one of the best power tools in the class. Holcomb is a high level performer with a frame and tools that project at an elite level.
No. 4 is one of the biggest risers in the class in LHP Hunter Dietz (Calvary Christian). USF commit has a physical 6-foot-6, 230 pound frame. Easy, clean arm action from an over the top slot. Sits 90-93 from the left side and generates a ton of swings and misses. Sharp slider to pair. Dietz continues to look the part of a front line starter at the next level.
Rounding out the top 5 is another big time riser this summer in RHP Charlee Soto (Reborn Christian). The UCF commit added size and strength as in now 6-foot-5, 197 pounds. Soto gained close to 10 mph on his fastball in a year, having been up to 98 mph this year. Command can be erratic at times but the stuff is electric. Above average changeup and a developing slider. Soto has a chance to be a top arm in this class.

Other Notables + Risers
RHP Garrett Baumann (Hagerty) has one of the most imposing frames in the class at 6-foot-8, 240 pounds. The UCF commit sits mid 90s and has been up to 96 this summer. Baumann has clean mechanics and gets downhill with ease. Fastball has life and gets onto batters quick. Throws all 3 pitches for strikes and has a lot of upside moving forward.
SS George Lombard (Gulliver Prep) has been a name to follow this summer. Above average defender at short but the bat has really trended upward. Loose hands with bat speed. Feel for the barrel with power potential. The Vandy commit should stick at short at the next level.
OF Blake Brookins (Miami Palmetto) jumped onto the scene this summer. The Gator commit is a lean, athletic 6-foot-5, 210 pounds. Tight End prospect in football, Brookins carries the strength over to the diamond. Creates leverage at the plate. Above average bat speed and power potential.
