Fl Unsigned Senior Games: Catcher Breakdown

 The Unsigned Senior Games took place at Henley Field in Lakeland, FL on August 26th. Players took part in a pro-style workout and a game. This event last year had 29 participants commit to schools and this years talent was equally impressive. Today we take a look at the the breakdown of the catchers in attendance.

Cam Hoines C / Bishop Verot, FL / 2018

6-foot, 170 pound left handed hitting catcher has a long, wiry frame. Defensively he shows some present athleticism and flexibility. There is some present twitchiness in his actions, as the feet work well and shows quality receiving actions. Offensively, he has a natural uphill path and creates loft. There is present gap-to-gap power that will continue to improve with strength. The swing translated well from batting practice to the game, showing a balanced setup and quality approach. Drove a line drive RBI single to center field. There is present athleticism and should continue to fill out and become stronger.  

 

Jacob Hinxman C / 3B / Winter Springs, FL / 2018

5-foot-8, 170 pound catcher hits with rhythm, using a  small leg kick. He uses his lower half well, sinking into his back leg, creating a slightly uphill path. He is aggressive through the zone and has above average power for his size. He also showed a feel for the barrel and drove a RBI single in the game. Defensively, he shows some quick quick actions. His footwork and transfer are sound, with pop times ranging from 2.06-2.15. The bat is going to play and will be a solid defender at the next level   

 

Derek Barone 3B / C / Strawberry Crest, FL / 2018

Barone a 6-foot-1 180- pound 3B/C ran a 8.24 60 yard dash. He uses a toe-tap load, is somewhat rotational, but level through the zone. His exit velocity was 70 mph. Behind the plate he showed a very accurate arm with his throws to second. With a quicker transfer his 2.15 pop time should improve. His throwing velocity behind the plate was 72 mph. 

 

Carlos Fonseca C / OF / Forest Hill Community, FL / 2018

5-foot-8, 170 pound catcher has some present bat speed from both sides. He has shown a feel for the barrel from the right side, starting upright with a slightly uphill path. Defensively, he shows actions that can make him an above average defensive catcher. He can rush at times, but it athletic with a strong arm. His hands work and is flexible. Overall, shows quality offensive and defensive tools that should play at the next level.  

 

Ramon Cordero C / 1B / Venice, FL / 2018

Cordero a catcher from powerhouse Venice High School showed quality tools behind the plate. He consistently produced 2.0-2.1 pop times along with 79 mph velocity of his throws. His arm is his biggest asset. At the plate he produced a violent swing which lead to inconsistent contact however when everything was on time he showed he was capable of providing gap power. His tee exit velocity was 83 mph. There is some steepness in the path, but there is present tools both offensively and defensively,  

 

Austin Gansky C / 3B / Lake Weir, FL / 2018

6-foot-2, 205 pound right handed hitting catcher shows a quality load and separation with a short, simple swing. He is aggressive through the zone, but could benefit from hitting off of a stronger front side. There is some present feel for the barrel and showed line drives from gap-to-gap. Defensively, he moves well behind the plate. He blocked well, pop times ranged from 2.08-2.15 and showed a strong arm with a catching velocity of 78 mph. 

 

Nicholas Berryman C / RHP / Keswick Christian, FL / 2018

6-foot-2, 225 pound right handed hitting catcher. Ran 8.35 60 yard dash. Offensively, he starts upright and open. Aggressive approach with a slightly uphill path. Produced an exit velocity of 68 mph. Defensively, he sits high in the setup. Pop times ranged from 2.0-2.05 with the best velocity being 73 mph. 

 

Austin Legg C / OF / Hernando, FL / 2018

Physical, 6-foot 180 pound catcher. He has a lot of present strength in the forearms and shoulders. Offensively, the right handed hitter has a medium leg kick trigger. There is some stiffness in the shoulders during the swing and can get rotational, but he also showed his present strength and bat speed. He has some pull side power presently. Defensively, he is solid behind the plate. There is some stiffness, the hands work and footwork is sound. The pop time ranged from 2.15-2.2 with a velocity of 73 mph.  

 

Tucker Horsley C / 1B / Tavares, FL / 2018

6-foot, 185 pound catcher who is athletically built catcher had pop times of 2.1. He did a good job receiving and blocking ball during the game. Offensively, during batting practice he showed the ability to stay up the middle with a short compact stroke that shows promise with added strength.
