FL Preseason All-State First Team Announced

Charlie Welch C / Jefferson, FL / 2018

Pepperdine recruit. Stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds, he carries the weight well, with strong broad shoulders and a strong lower half. The frame looks the part of a durable catcher as defensively he shows flexibility. He is a solid receiver and had pop times ranging from 1.98-2.07. His hands works and has all the makings of a solid defensive catcher. Overall, his bat is his calling card. Setup slightly wider than shoulder width, he has a leg kick trigger and consistently gets on time. Sinks into the lower half and creates a party that generate natural loft and power. The swing is still compact while generating bat speed and had an exit velocity of 98 mph. Expect to see him come June as solid defensive catchers with power are normally favorites of professional scouts. 

Danny Neri C / Bishop Snyder, FL / 2020

Georgia Tech recruit. 6-foot, 165 pounds, athletic build that will add strength and athleticism with time. Defensively, he uses the athleticism well behind the plate. He could improve on flexibility to get in a more consistent receiving position, but overall the toolset is there to be a solid defensive catcher. Offensively, he showed ability to use the big part of the field. Able to get ball in the air with regularity. Shows the ability to not only create leverage, but turn the barrel and show above average hit tool with power potential. A lot of tools to like and follow going forward.

Hunter Barco 1B / Bolles, FL / 2019

Although Barco didn’t throw this day, the two-way players offensive toolset is nearly just as impressive. He showed off his above average arm, topping at 92 mph from the outfield and e athleticism and footwork around the bag. Although the left handed arm is what has him currently No 1 overall in the 2019 class, his bat alone would also rank him up there as well. The left-handed hitter has a slightly open stance and uses the leverage and strong wrists and forearms to create well above average bat speed. He stay out over the front foot and consistently finds the barrel out in front creating well above average pull side power and that also shows up in the 103 mph exit velocity. If Barco does make it to campus, you could see him not only making a big impact on the mound but at the plate as well. 

Logan Keller SS / 3B / Lake Brantley, FL / 2019

Alabama recruit. Stands at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Looks to have grown a bit and filled out. Broad shoulder, strong frame with more room to continue to ass strength. Defensively, he works under control. He could work with a bit more rhythm with the feet to and through the ball, but overall a solid defender. Shows plenty of arm to slide to third at the next level at 88 mph. Offensively the added strength showed in present pull side power. There is present bat to ball skills and even more power potential in the future. Exit velocity was 94 mph. Projects as an above average hitter with above average power at the next level and will be a draft follow for 2019.

Zac Veen SS / 3B / Spruce Creek, FL / 2020

Central Florida recruit. Long and lean with athleticism standing at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Flashes explosive movements that should only become more prevalent as he matures. Offensively, he has a smooth left handed swing that mechanically, reminds you of Cody Bellinger. He generates advanced whip through the zone. Lots of offensive potential here and a chance for power as he continues to add to his frame. Registered an 89 mph exit velocity in the cage. In the field he shows athleticism and actions with an accurate arm across the diamond that topped out at 80 mph. Clocked in at 7.09 for his 60 yard dash time. High follow for the 2020 class.

Alex Freeland SS / 3B / Mariner, FL / 2020

Athletic build on lanky 6-foot-1 frame with room to grow. Athletic, twitchy actions. Projects as strength-athletic combo. Offensively, he has a patient approach in the box and quick hands that can handle velocity. Switch hitter with pull power from the left side and can consistently square it up. Line drive approach from the right side. Registered a 92 mph exit velocity in the cage. In the field he is smooth with hands to match and has a solid arm, topping out at 80 mph across the diamond. Has a lot of untapped physical potential and is a solid athlete. Clocked in at 7.60 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. Strong follow.

Andres Antonini SS / 2B / St Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2018

Pittsburgh recruit. The 6-foot-2, 215 pound shortstop has put on quite a bit of muscle to a broad shoulder, athletic frame. It doesn’t appear to have hindered his agility though, as fe still shows a quick, athletic first step and above average all around defensive actions. He works to and through the ball with confidence and should have enough range to stick at short for a while. Offensively, the switch hitter is a bit more crouched with less of a load left handed. He uses his lower half well and trusts his hands. There is present bat speed, but could benefit from a bit more separation. Right-handed he stays a bit more upright and uses a toe tap load. He can get a bit rotational but clears the backside well. Showed a little more power right handed, but both sides exit velocity was 92 mph. 

Carmine Lane 3B / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2019

Standing at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, he has broad shoulders and a strong lower half. A frame that projects to add 10-15 pounds of muscle fairly easily. Defensively, he works calm and under control. Trusts his hands and creates quality angles. Was 87 mph across the infield and projects as a solid third base defender. Offensively there's a lot to like. The present strength and leverage work working there swing. He stands upright and trusts his hands, but swings with controlled aggression. He stayed gap-to-gap and consistently had hard contact. The swing works and there is much more power to come. Exit velocity was 97 mph. There's a big offensive upside up follow with Lane. 

Dylan Crews OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2020

Louisiana State recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 173 pounds with a lean, athletic frame.  Offensively, he commands the batter’s box with a quick and powerful swing to all fields with more power to come as he continues to fill out his frame. The present hit tool is plus and consistently dins the barrel in both batting practice and game. He also shows above average power and could develop into plus power.  Registered an exit velocity of 87 mph in the cage. From the outfield, he fielded the ball out in front and under control with accuracy to his targets. Outfield velocity came in at 83 mph. 60 yard dash time came in at 7.20 seconds. Feel for the game is extremely high with advanced toolset and extremely high upside. 

Corey Robinson OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2021

Miami recruit. Stands at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds  has a lot of physical maturity with the frame that will stay athletic while adding muscle. Present athleticism and already an above average runner for class, 6.95 60 yard dash.Defensively, he shows above average outfield potential, topped out at 80 mph. Offensively, he shows a simple, advanced approach for age. Simple setup with a very compact swing and above average bat speed with exit velocity of 87 mph. The frame is going to add muscle and everything is going to continue to improve off of already high end tool. Extremely high all around ceiling. 

Brandon Fields OF / Dr. Phillips, FL / 2020

Franco Aleman RHP / Alonso, FL / 2018

Florida International recruit. The 6-foot-6, 215 pound right-hander is not only long and projectable, but also has present strength especially in the lower half. He may have made the biggest splash for himself on the day as he continues to see his stock rise. Not only can you easily dream on the frame, the arm works free and easy as well. There is some length in the back, but he gets down the mound well and his fingers on top of the fastball creating tilt mostly at 90-92 touching 93 mph. The curveball shows a lot of upside as well. When on top it has depth and tight spin at 74-76 mph. Also shows a feel for a 78-79 mph changeup. There is a lot to like about Aleman and wouldn’t be surprised to see him catch some helium in the spring and rise up draft boards. 

Mitchell LeRoy RHP / Freedom, FL / 2019

Hillsborough CC recruit. Stands at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Has broad shoulders and long arms on a projectable frame. Has a shorter arm action in the back and a high front side. Creates tilt, with the fastball working mostly 87-89 mph. While it's early in the year, he dropped off a bit to 85-87 in the second and is primed overall for a big jump as he continues to add strength to the projectable frame. He showed a command of the fastball and also a feel of a curveball at 70-73 mph with depth and a strait change at 81-83 mph. He struck out two in his two innings of work. Overall there are present tools and everything projects well. Should see big jumps with innings and strength. 

Dante Visconti RHP / Bartram Trail, FL / 2019

Florida Atlantic recruit. Stands at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, with a strong, thick lower half. He worked with an up-tempo pace and attracted hitters, working off of his fastball for two innings. Currently works with a lower front side and some rotation, but the arm works loose and easy from a ¾ slot. The fastball sat 84-88 touching 89 mph with some late arm side life, and work expect to see more. He showed a feel for a sweeping slider, that he threw to right and left-handed hitters at 75-76 mph. Would expect to see him develop a changeup, but overall he had a quality presence with a loose arm. Expect to see a jump in velocity. 

Trey Jackson SS / RHP / Eau Gallie, FL / 2020

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with an athletic, projectable build. Shows present strength. Stood out all over the field throughout the event. Offensively, he starts from an open stance with quick hands through the zone and strength in his swing, looking to drive the ball into the gaps with intent. Shows a feel for the barrel and the ball jumps off the bat. As he continues to become stronger, look for a jump in gap-to-gap power. Registered an exit velocity of 91 mph in the cage. In the field he displayed actions, ranged freely to his right and left, and showed an above average arm from short with his throws topping out at 87 mph. Makes the off-balance throws. Clocked in at 7.47 seconds for his 60 yard dash time. On the mound he he has a simple, repeatable windup with a quick arm throwing out of the high ¾ slot. Fastball mostly sat in the 81-85 mph range with life along with a 70-71 mph slider that showed depth while also mixing in a 78-79 mph change up. At times he can fall off to the first base side on his landing, but the athleticism and arm strength are apparent on the mound. More velocity to come as he adds to his frame. Very athletic two-way player who will be a strong follow throughout the spring. 

Collin Kayfus 1B / LHP / Palm Beach Central, FL / 2020

Miami recruit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11,150 pounds on a slender frame and lots of room to add strength. At the plate, he has a balanced offensive skill set and showed ability to drop the bat head on the ball from the left side. Covers the lower half of the zone well and is patient in the box. Hands work for a long time in zone and creates consistent, hard contact. Registered a 90 mph exit velocity in the cage. Heads-up defender with solid hands at first along with accurate throws to second and third which topped out at 70 mph. On the mound, he has a simple wind up with a loose, easy working arm that featured a fastball that sat 80-82 mph, touching 83 along with a 66-67 mph curveball that showed depth. Struck out a batter during his inning on the mound. Will continue to see jumps in his overall game as he strengthens and matures. Strong follow.
