FL JUCO: Soph. All-Star Weekend - Suncoast Conference

This past weekend the annual FCSAA Sophomore All-Star Game and Showcase occurred in Lakeland, FL at Joker Marchant Stadium. This event is for sophomores only, many of which are still uncommitted. The Southern Conference and Panhandle Conference played each other and participated in a showcase on Saturday, October 27. The following day, Sunday, October 28, The Mid Florida Conference and Suncoast Conference did the same.

This week we began by taking a look at the standout Sophomore performers from the All-Star weekend with the Southern Conference, followed by the Panhandle Conference and the Mid-Central Conference

Today, we take a look at Suncoast Conference. Once more, our attention immedaitely turns to the pitchers. Hillsborough teammates Nick Davila (South Florida commit) and Spencer Bodanza (Miami commit) showed some of the best stuff on the day, while St. Pete LHP Quinton Martinez presented one of the most projectable frames. Florida Southwestern came out with an impressive lineup of arms in Mitch MyersRyan GustoRafael SantosTommy Haggerty and Chris Messer.

Offensively, Polk State's Trent Sinkfield put together some of the best at-bats of the entire weekend, going two-for-three with a double and a single. Keep reading below to see reports and videos on the aforementioned prospects and more.

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA


Shane Shifflet, INF, State College of Florida (SO)
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Solid athlete and above average all-around defender. Quick first step, hands work and has a clean transfer. Swing is level, compact and has present bat speed and bat to ball skills. 

ST. PETE COLLEGE


Denis Filipovski, INF, St. Pete College (SO)
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitting infielder, athletic, proportional build. Line drive approach with developing pull-side power, barrel path works with some natural loft. Displayed able hands on the infield, smooth footwork, quick to transfer.  

POLK STATE


Trent Sinkfield, 3B/1B, Polk State (SO)
6-foot, 205-pound, right-handed hitting corner infielder, strong, durable frame. Gap-to-gap approach at the plate, makes consistent hard contact, took some of the best at-bats of the weekend. First at-bat of the day hit a double down the left field line and then finished the day with a single through the left-side of the infield.
